MoCo Council president Hans Riemer arrested

A Montgomery County Councilmember who has had trouble obeying the law in the past found himself in handcuffs Wednesday. Council President Hans Riemer was arrested on the steps of the U.S. Capitol by U.S. Capitol Police yesterday, after refusing an order to disperse following an immigration rally.

"I was arrested today," Riemer wrote on Facebook last evening. Riemer has promised to introduce legislation to declare Montgomery County officially a "sanctuary county" for illegal immigrants, according to Gustavo Torres, Executive Director of CASA de Maryland.

Riemer has run afoul of the law in the past, including violating his own Open Data law this past spring, when he directed that a file required to be posted on the County website be removed. In 2014, he appeared to have inside information on illegal activity in the County's Department of Liquor Control, over which he has oversight authority, but waited to report it until after he was safely reelected that November.

Good for him. Standing up for what he thinks is right.

Calling the other running "afoul of the law," is a ridiculous opinion with no legal bearing.

I mean, he was arrested, Robert isn't really wrong.

I think its funny Robert is reporting on this. Hans went down there to be arrested giving him coverage is exactly the point of why he went down there, he wants people to talk about his sanctuary city legislation.

I think the legislation is awful but Robert you kinda fell for Hans trap here.

5:52, I think Anna is referring to the latter part where there was no arrest.

“Riemer has run afoul of the law in the past, including violating his own Open Data law this past spring, when he directed that a file required to be posted on the County website be removed. This.

Precisely, 6:06. The latter "run afoul of the law" part.

He was arrested along with 200 others for not dispersing their crowd. Period. No violence, no weapons, no tear gas, no running people over with their car.

They were rallying for protecting DACA recipients. Who themselves are just trying to get legislators to keep their word.

I do have a problem that he did this as a PR stunt, but good for him to sticking to his word. I might not agree with a lot of his words, but he isn't back peddling on this one.

i doubt this cuuck lives in moco's ms-13 zone. Guessing he is tucked away in a friendly bethesda/cc wooded neighborhood.

6:12 - You would be wrong. He lives in Takoma Park - right next to Langley Park.

What file was this?

"In 2014, he appeared to have inside information on illegal activity in the County's Department of Liquor Control, over which he has oversight authority, but waited to report it until after he was safely reelected that November."

Oh, please. Not the Three Flunkies Drinking Pilfered Beer "scandal" again.

ROBERT! YOU SHAMELESS SEEKER OF SCANDALOUS GOSSIP. I guess you'd say the same about Dr. MLK, or even Ghandi.

8:12 I agree, in this #sad piece your mention nothing of Del. Ana Sol Gutierrez, who was also arrested with Hans. Talk about lopsided journalism, if you can call this POS that.

In the Nov 27 Silver Chips of Montgomery Blair High, Riemer says he is investigating a soda tax for Montgomery County. This statement takes on significance now that he is Council President. I shall quickly veto that new tax, if given the chance.

Robin, aren't you just a little bit concerned about the deteriorating mental state of your Boy Wonder Robert Dyer?

Anonymous said...

Is there a mug shot?

Anonymous said...

Robert, what is the Macedonia Baptist Church's postion on "sanctuary"?

Anonymous said...

The lawless Council has a new lawless President. Perfect!

Anonymous said...

So is this the daily crime report?

Anonymous said...

An honest reporter would have written the headline "HANS RIEMER ARRESTED AT PROTEST".

Anonymous said...

Well, duh. Ridiculous Robert is neither honest nor a journalist.

Envious he is.

Anonymous said...

I don’t think there’s a mugshot. I suspect if there he is that Hans doesn’t have a greasy ponytail, however.

EVen Robin is distancing himself from Dyer. At the last function I saw Robin at, he sounded very hesitant to accept any endorsement from Robert and seemingly didn’t want to even be associated with him.

Anonymous said...

Robin, I’d imagine that based on these scathing comments about Robert that aligning yourself with Robert is not too good for your campaign.

Anonymous said...

We used to have to deal with one douche-y post among nine informative ones about Bethesda. Now the ratio is tipping to 1/3 douche-y.

Please stop!

Anonymous said...

Are you saying you prefer Douchey Dyer instead of Ridoculous Robert?

Anonymous said...

You can’t be serious - if Robert is going to write skewed and defamatory crap like this, I would hope people hold him to it. His obsession with Hans is clearly unhealthy but still no excuse for him to warp the news. Hans was arrested for a reason - making a point, taking a stand. Instead of being transparent, Robert makes crap up and purposely misleads the reader. You should be ashamed of yourself, Robert.

4:15: What a ******* coincidence that the gaps you show perfectly match blackouts and disabling of crime data by Montgomery County government. The current illegal disabling of the crime datasets is not only illegal, but appears to have been implemented as part of a new partnership between the County and Bethesda Magazine. In exchange for occasional exclusive crime details, the small-and-slightly-failing magazine agrees to provide favorable coverage of crime. Haven't even had time to get on the County and IG about this blackout yet.

LOL, more paranoid speculation that anyone but you are responsible for your own failure. Why not just admit it, figure out what you need to do to improve yourself, and take it from there.

Since Robin frequents this blog, he could very easily discredit.

Anonymous said...

Dyer, you're just not that important. Hans Riemer and Steve Hull don't waste more than a few minutes a month thinking about you or your delusions.

LOL @ Robin

Robert Dyer said...

7:10: What does the disabling of the crime datasets on the County's Open Data portal have to do with me, you moron?

7:21: Is that why Hull cloned my business model, and steals stories from my site, and Riemer takes pictures of me from the dais and emails them to Saqib Ali? LOL Oh, no, they spend no time thinking of Robert Dyer at all.

8:18: Uh, yeah - the crime data site is wrecked, and police and State's Attorney have passed a few nuggets to Bethesda Magazine they didn't otherwise make public. In return, favorable coverage from the small-and-slightly failing magazine, which anyone can verify in reading their recent crime stories.

Anonymous said...

Why do some folks think our local government is infallible? No need for a skeptical local media if that's the case.

Anonymous said...

Who said "our local government is infallible"?

And how did Dyer make the jump to "Saqib Ali"?

Robert Dyer said...

10:23: I didn't make the jump to Saqib Ali - Hans Riemer did.

Anonymous said...

Robert, you’re making me nervous. Please take your medicine. You sound delusional and unstable.

Anonymous said...

piss on hans and the liberals that voted for him! make america great again!

Robert Dyer said...

4:54: It was Hans Riemer who was arrested, not me. You and he are the ones who apparently need medication at this time.

Anonymous said...

The interesting thing is Hans has a platform and a worthy voice. Hence why he got arrested - trying to make the world better. If a guy like Robert got arrested, it wouldn’t resonate in quite the same way...would it? Nope - we’d chalk it up to the fact that someone forgot to supervise the cuckoo who makes up conspiracy theories and thinks that zombies are real and can vote. Good for Hans for taking action vice whining about things and blaming others for his own failures like the owner of this blog does. Funny that Hans has more support on this blog than the blogger has. That should tell you something...

Anonymous said...

I don't think highly of Hans Riemer due to his poor grasp of many policy issues and his neglect and disparagement of his suburban constituents. I won't be voting for Riemer in 2018.

That said, Riemer stood up for his convictions in participating in a protest and being arrested. The right to protest peacefully is a core civil liberty.

Anonymous said...

He did use his right, but when asked to leave and refusing to obey the law, their is a price to pay. Its all about him trying to get his name out there in this crowded field.
