Lotus Grill & Bar opens in Bethesda

It's turning into a big week of openings around the Bethesda Row area. First, Prima opened Monday at Bethesda Row itself. Then Lotus Grill & Bar opened yesterday at 4929 Elm Street in the Shoppes of Bethesda. The restaurant combines traditional Indian cuisine with tacos and pizza on its menu.

No alcohol? Will not last 6 months.

5:59 here. I realized after I posted that it IS called grill and bar, so I assume there will be alcohol, lovely alcohol, so I apologize, may this restaurant last forever....or at least longer than 6 months

That's quite a mixture.

Indian cuisine, pizzas, AND tacos! Sounds like a desperate move to please all palates, rather than concentrate on your main specialty. I give it six months considering, eight with the bar.

@6:57 I agree. I'm guessing these must be new restaurateurs. The problem with offering a wide range of cuisine is it ends up with everything being mediocre. Their better option is to focus just on Indian and do it right. There aren't that many Indian options in Bethesda, especially compared to pizza options.

The founder of Moby Dick passed away a few weeks ago and there was a story in the Post about him. His first location was in Bethesda, and they started off offering American-style sandwiches and Persian cuisine. Then he realized they'd really stand out by focusing on the Persian stuff and now they have 20 successful locations around the area.

All the other local media reported on the passing of Mike Daryoush, founder of Moby Dick, which has been in Bethesda for 32 years. It's odd that Mr. Hyperlocal Reporter Robert Dyer didn't report this.

One of these restaurants should offer Mori-Buns.

Great! Love the Indian pizza at M&N, hopefully this will be just as good but maybe smaller portions.
