Signage installed at Piccoli Piatti Pizzeria at Westbard Square in Bethesda (Photos)

The permanent sign has been installed over the future storefront of Piccoli Piatti Pizzeria at 5306 Zenith Overlook, at Westbard Square in Bethesda. We're also now getting a better look at that storefront with barricades and other obstructions now having been removed. There is dark paneling behind the sign, and patterned columns supporting the overhang. The indented storefront contrasts with other tenants in the building so far, and provides additional outdoor dining space beyond the sidewalk area.

Piccoli Piatti has added the Westbard Square location to its website, which says "opening soon." The new pizzeria held two hiring events earlier this month, and still has a "Now Hiring" sign in the front window as of last evening. Piccoli Piatti specializes in Neapolitan-style pizza, using authentic ingredients imported from Italy.

It's very good. But again, this entire project is disappointing in my view. The build out is not very user-friemdly and hard to navigate when driving by. Many have said that figuring out how to get into the Giant is more than a chore. Couple all that with this seemingly weekly crime makes it even tougher for food places. Will people come to an area that never had restaurants and food? Maybe but it might take awhile. So maybe in the surrounding area don't even know this half a century center is being reimagined.

Robert, do you have any insight into the restaurant they are building adjacent to the green turf space? The renderings show "Canal House" which is obviously just a placeholder. We could use a nice outdoor dining venue!

Tatte is packed. It's a huge hit. Let's hope the same holds true for Piccoli Piatti.

Tatte is great and always busy. Looks like Piccoli Piatti Pizzeria will have outdoor seating. Once you find the entrance and elevators to Giant it's no problem. So many grocery stores the DMV have the parking/escalator/elevator set-up. Unrelated question: Any idea what's going on with the former location of Black Coffee in DC? Will the whole block be torn down? Redeveloped into mixed use?

1:09 - Yes, Tatte is extremely good, I agree. Was at their relatively new location on the Pike. Bright, clean, friendly, appealing, delicious and with a full service, customer feel. Piccoli is very good and will no doubt do well there. Things have cooled off at the Wildwood location but it doesn't mean that it isn't tasty and a good value. Similar to Tatte where it's limited service but feels full service.

5:32 - The Giant there is the most frustrating thing about the new Westbard. To say that it's challenging to find out how to get into the grocery store is a gross understatement. As to your question, yes, it's unrelated and Robert does not report on DC news thank goodness.

JAC - what do you mean things have cooled off at their Wildwood location - it is still busy. Are you saying the food quality has gone down?

the signage for Piccoli is so bright i swear it is visible from space

7:18 - No, I mean it's not as busy as it was at the beginning. Food is still excellent.

JAC, the elderly often take a little more time to adjust to changes in their environment or schedule. I think if you make small adjustments to your routine and expose yourself to new experiences and environments in a slow and deliberate way, you will soon come to appreciate the benefits and this new development. Don’t get discouraged!!
