7100 WISCONSIN AVENUE APARTMENT CONSTRUCTION MOVING FORWARD AT EASTHAM'S SITE IN BETHESDA (PHOTO)
After significant delays, Washington Property Company is now moving forward with its development at the Eastham's Exxon site, at 7100 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. The legendary gas station stopped selling fuel over a year ago, and maintained an auto repair business on the site. A construction permit has now been applied for, and was officially received by the Montgomery County Department of Permitting on December 23.

Thanks for the update, but the building will be apartments (not condos) and it hasn't really been delayed. The auto repair shop had held a lease until the end of 2013 and groundbreaking isn't scheduled until June (which should put construction right on schedule given the slow pace that permits are approved in this county).
Easthams is such an eyesore. Junk cars lined up. They can't demolish that place soon enough.
I did mention it was a luxury apartment building in the article itself, but I will try to correct the headline error. As far as delays, didn't WPC buy this property in 2005? That's almost 10 years ago, which qualifies as a delay in my book. The Washington Post was riddled with proofreading errors today, and some of the tremendous energy being deployed on corrections here recently might be sorely needed over there.
Re: 2:25 PM's comment: Eastham's was well-maintained, and maintained a small nearby park, as well, when it was fully operational. When the next big storm hits, and the few gas stations downtown run out of gas again, people will wish Eastham's was still here.
