Alden of New England, a boot and shoe retailer in operation since 1884, is moving into the vacant Make Meaning space on Bethesda Avenue at Hagar Lane. The company claims to be "the only original New England shoe and bootmaker remaining of the hundreds who began so long ago." I presume they are speaking of the 19th century, as Sebago and Rockport are fairly old brands from New England that are still in business today. Alden has another retail store in downtown D.C. at 921 F Street.
The light was on in the upstairs space last evening. I'm not sure what the men's suits are for in the lobby, as I find no suits in the Alden catalog, and the only non-shoe accessories for sale in their D.C. store are belts. Stay tuned.

great addition but an odd space?
No news on Read Wall?
Read Wall carries Alden products. That's all this is, likely. Alden only has two corporate stores, DC and San Francisco, anyway.
Those look like Read Wall jackets. Read Wall's instagram notes that they've moved their Bethesda pop-up across the street to the upper level to create the "Read Wall Loft." Alden isn't opening another store in the DC Area.
Rockport and Sebago have largely shifted their manufacturing to China. Alden is the last remaining New England-MADE shoe.
Another show store, my wife will be happy. She can now split her time between Comfort One and this place.
