Automatic doors installed at Bethesda Lidl

Automatic electric doors have been installed at the entrance to the future Bethesda Lidl grocery store at 7625 Old Georgetown Road in downtown Bethesda. The good news is that construction continues to proceed apace at the supermarket successor to Safeway at Bethesda Place. The bad news is that paper has been placed over the windows to block views of that progress. No opening date for the store has been announced as of this morning, but it is expected to open sometime this winter.

It would be really cool if some store could use the bridge door-opening sound from the original "Star Trek" series (although I read somewhere that those doors weren't automatic at all but were actually operated by stagehands).
That might be, especially to those of a certain age, a soothing callback (like the ambient noises of the various "Star Trek" series' bridges (whcih are easily found on YouTube).

I hope it's not Krazy expensive like the new one by Wegmans down Wisconsin Ave.

Will they automatically keep out the riff raff ruining the ambience of all the other grocery stores in the area?

Trader Joe's and Harris Teeter don't have problems with beggars or scammers. They're really out of hand at Giant and 7-11.

Out of hand at the Harris Teeter especially after 9:30 pm when I do my daily shopping.

12:04 pm yep - I've experienced beggars at the Harris Teeter checkout asking customers to pay for food. The store staff tolerated it. Eventually the man sat on the store floor and began eating a prepared meal. Store staff disappeared, giving the man space for his act.

The 'l'agent provacateur' in me wonders if it's theft, on my part, to get more food in the store and bring it to him. Make the establishment do something rather than just mollycoddle him.

If I were homeless and hungry, I'd be up here too! Y'all are so inviting and accommodating! What's not to like?
