Pedestrian cut-through now under construction on Auburn Avenue in Bethesda (Photos)

The pedestrian cut-through from Auburn Avenue to Norfolk Avenue is now under construction behind the new 4909 Auburn apartments. When completed, pedestrians will be able to take this short-cut under the building on Auburn, and follow this walkway to Norfolk Avenue. The amenity was designed as a short-cut between Imagination Stage and Battery Lane Urban Park. Pedestrians will emerge next to the end storefront of the new apartment building on the Norfolk side of the property.

I don’t know about others, but I think the choice of brick on this caper was very bad. The grayish brown brick is very mottled and dull. It looks like Chicago Common brick, which was traditionally used on houses in Chicago on non-front facades because it was so cheap. Furthermore the darker accent brick is only slightly darker, and appears to be more of a mistake, where it looks like the mason used the wrong brick. The whole composition seems to create a very grey and bland facade. The fake wood panels in the recesses help somewhat, but still, this seems like a very meh masonry building too me.

The neutral brick was clearly picked to fit in with its neutral brick neighbors on each side. Of course the brick office building to the south has since painted itself to look like a unicorn vomited on it so the attempt at fitting in was wasted, anyway.

Cut through to where exactly besides Imagination Stage, the fresh hell that awaits in downtown Bethesda?
