Montgomery County police have arrested a suspect in the April 25, 2026 armed robbery at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. Kilbert Rosales, 34, of no fixed address, was identified by one of the two victims. Officers located Rosales near the Transit Center on the mall property. He initially was cooperative, but after being handcuffed, he allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted police. Before being placed in the rear of a police cruiser, police say Rosales began to slam his head into the rear window of the vehicle, lacerating his face.
Rosales has been charged with armed robbery, theft ($100 to under $1,500), disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, malicious destruction of property, assault, making a false statement to a police officer, and related charges. He is being held without bond at the County jail. Police recovered the box cutter he allegedly used to threaten the two victims in the parking garage outside of Nordstrom on his person.

I heard the Purple Line will solve these problems!
I'm sure this comment section will remain calm, fact-based, and free of dogwhistles (though we're already at one at the time of this comment).
Sounds like a real winner.
I wouldn't call it a dog whistle. What areas on it have less crime than Bethesda besides maybe Chevy Chase Lake?
Yes, it will facilitate them.
The level of sophistication is beyond comprehension.
@11:05 Projection
What, are we not allowed to notice things? Better to die ignorant of the world, I guess
Good job, police and mall security!
The Purple Line does not extend to Montgomery Mall.
"While there is no direct Metro station at the mall, nearby stations like Bethesda offer easy transfers to Ride On and Metrobus routes that stop at the mall’s Transit Center."
I can hardly wait to shop and dine in West Hyattsville!!
Aren't we all sick of seeing these crime reports everyday single day? What is being done about all of this? NOTHING!
PL is basically a life line for the youngin criminals.
Westfield does a good job with ensuring the mall is well secured with security and police offers inside and outside the mall. Glad they caught the culprit, I do hope that they cut off the M70 route as it’ll bring in more crime from Purple Line. I hate the purple line so much, it’ll make Bethesda the new crime scene
Since the criminal was armed it couldn't have been the Fugitive Kimball.
Not so sure about 'every day, ' but otoh there are many unreported here (no reflection on Mr. Dyer). Likewise some crime is reported on other smaller blogs but there seems no central reporting, much to our AG's benefit: it pays to keep us uninformed and docile.
No, the show was cancelled. . .
You live in moco what do you expect.
Hence the saying: Ignorance is Bliss.
Those who can afford it buy high tech security gadgets.
"Police note that the daily crime summary reflects only a portion of
reported calls for service and not all incidents that occurred on that date."
The M70 has been ruined ever since covid. No one pays. The drivers just lets homeless people sleep in the back and hardly anyone pays....
@6:21 AM Not quite.
Our perennial lead legal eagle has a solution:
https://bethesdamagazine.com/2025/03/11/moco-states-attorney-john-mccarthy-seeks-reelection-to-sixth-term/
“We are seizing upon educational opportunities to go out and try to use education, not arrests. . ., it would be a much safer community,” McCarthy said.
11:22 - A sixth term most likely and still soft on crime. Amazing how little people know about those running in elections. It's harder than the people running at the top of ticket but not impossible. Soft on crime policies never work.
He is running unopposed so it is a sure thing.
Our perennial state prosecutor Who moonlights as a legal tutor Is running again for reelection In order to maximize his pension.
3:34 - To maximize the number of criminals who go thru the revolving "hotel door" of the justice system. At least he no longer dyes his hair. That black shoe polish dye job was awful
Before he got on live TV to admonish
He put on three coats of shoe polish
Now he sports the James Brolin look
Before he gets the crooks off the hook.
@12:48 AM "The Attorney General also enforces and upholds the rule of law, using the authority of the Office to protect Marylanders and promote the public good."
@12:48 AM "it pays to keep us uninformed and docile." Growing mushrooms.
