Demolition begins for new apartment tower in Bethesda

Demolition of multiple buildings has begun at the future site of an apartment tower at the southeast corner of Old Georgetown Road and St. Elmo Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Buildings along both streets will ultimately be torn down, most of which are now vacant. Work has started on the former Jewelry Exchange building on Old Georgetown. The office building on the corner will likely be the last to go, as some tenants are still occupying it.

Oh that won't cause any traffic problems...

That's an understatement.

Glad there's a reminder to tarp the trucks. Can't wait until this eyesore is gone.

I'll take that ‘eyesore’ any day over a towering apartment building that causes traffic headaches

Old Georgetown Grill is scheduled to close in October. A loss for the neighborhood. It was a family operation and they will be missed. The owner is retiring. I will also miss the gyros on pita with potato chips and the usual Sunday crowd.
