Old Georgetown Grille closes in Bethesda

Old Georgetown Grille
has closed at 7755 Old Georgetown Road in downtown Bethesda. The American diner operated for over 20 years. Their building is going to be demolished to clear the way for a new apartment tower. Smaller buildings on adjacent lots are already being taken down by a demolition crew.

Weren't they in business for over 30 years (since at least as early as 1995)?

Don't worry guys, JAC will be along very soon to tell us for the 46th time that she didn't enjoy the time she ate here back in '09.

JAC is female? All this time I’ve been responding to posts assuming I was writing to another guy. Sorry if I got things wrong, JAC. I know, I know, typical liberal, overly sensitive at possibly having caused offense..

When it was sold the food quality went South.

JAC aside, we had some nice early mornings there at that corner table. Sorry we couldn’t go a couple more times.

I’ve wickedly joined JAC would just love to SC where he/she would be happier. Always a pleasant surprise when JAC compliments something.

Well played 8:31.

Look at all the misogynistic liberals. You guys judge everything by race, gender, sexual preference. Take a look in the mirror once in a while.

I don't see misogyny here. In fact, the assumption that a male was making JAC's comments could well be taken as flattering to females.

Always went there when my parents visited ~ not as much in between their visits. Enjoyed the food, and the staff was very pleasant :-) (Second choice for my dad was liver and onions night at the Tastee Diner, haha)

Like Trump, JAC is living rent free in empty minds.

50/50 shot it’s that or them complaining that upper class suburban Bethesda is “so dangerous.”

Maybe JAC doesn't really exist. Anyways, the restaurant was there for a really long time. It had three owners over that time. The first was the owner, or landlord of the building and maybe other real estate of that area. He built it and ran it for several years. He retired and sold it to George, the Greek, who supposedly ran a beachfront boardwalk french fried shop. The last was Joe, the Korean, with his wife and son, the drummer. It was good, over all of its years, and owners, I can attest to that.

It was good only under the first owner who owned it too briefly. In those early days they had a liquor license and the food was edible.

It was too mediocre for a second visit when I went over 20 years ago. The vegetarian friend I went with had been a regular there until I pointed out that their "vegetable" soup was made with chicken broth, which upset him very much.
