TEXAS HAS JOBS, GROWTH, AND...DAVE AND BUSTER'S!

With the demolition-bound White Flint Mall having given Dave and Buster's the boot from Montgomery County 2 weeks ago, I couldn't help but notice this article on the contrasting situation in Texas. Unlike Montgomery County, the Lone Star State is booming with tech and industrial jobs, and is a major destination for millennials seeking employment.

Where we now have no Dave and Buster's, Houston is about to welcome its third D&B in 2015. As suburban areas are again outpacing urban ones in growth nationwide, Houston's newest D&B will be in an indoor mall (that is rapidly-expanding its square footage by 50%), not an urban "town center."

Large malls that attract shoppers from across a region are doing fine. There are probably two other malls across the street in Houston that were bulldozed and made into town centers though.

haha, someone had the exact same reaction as me. Silly Dyer. Move to Texas, then. Enjoy the minimum wage capital of the country and some of the worst schools and public services you can find in western society. I double-dog dare you, Dyer.

all dyer needs are some tv dinners and regal movie theaters and he's set....i'm sure he'd fit in just great in texas, plenty of highways too

Anonymous 8:21AM: TV dinner? You're showing your age :)

6:46 Any evidence of that?

Wow, it does? That's new lingo for you 25 years later?

8:15 Those tech, defense, aerospace, etc. jobs aren't paying minimum wage. But most of the jobs created recently in Montgomery County are. Why move to Texas, if you can be a waiter here?

I await your speech to the millennials of Bethesda, when you announce they won't be able to watch the latest blockbusters anymore. Demolishing Regal Cinemas doesn't sound like a county seeking millennials.

8:45 - Yes. Hopefully when he catches up to the Walkman and grunge, he'll be able to translate "SMH" and "YOLO" for us, among other cutting-edge pop culture.

D&B would have been the perfect fit to fill the void that will remain when the old Montgomery Mall theatre is vacated. A huge missed opportunity for Westfield.
