Vehicles related to the Marriott International headquarters and hotel construction project were parked in the only northbound travel lane on Woodmont Avenue in front of the site for a second full day Tuesday. They included both work trucks and private cars, despite Marriott having its own garage on-site, and there being a public parking garage directly across the street.
Vehicles using center turn lane to get around parked vehicles in the actual northbound travel lane |
Vehicles heading northbound were forced to move into the oncoming center turn lane, which switches direction halfway down, including large Metrobuses. The blockade began Monday with no public announcement, and no enforcement action has been taken by Montgomery County or police so far. Montgomery County's Department of Transportation recently reduced the number of travel lanes on this block of Woodmont to one in each direction, to facilitate the addition of a bikeway and center turning lane in front of Marriott.

So... as I asked when you reported this yesterday, have you contacted anyone about this? MoCo Police, MoCo 311, Bethesda Urban Partnership, Marriott themselves?
5:38: Here's an intriguing possibility: Are you suggesting that no police officer or County official has driven down that block of Woodmont in over 48 hours?
Yesterday Robert said there's only a lane closure "when there is more than one lane" heading in a particular direction because he's apparently oblivious to the past few years when this exact lane was closed during the daytime for months at a time.
12:25: At that time, there were 2 northbound lanes. There is only one now.
@ 6:17 PM - Given that you are a leader in our community, why not take a more pro-active stance, rather than passively waiting for someone else to notice it?
6:02: I've done more than Montgomery County has so far.
No cones? No signage? Nothing? Let me drive down there and get my car paid off by Marriott. Apparently, they'd rather pay after an accident than pay beforehand to prevent one.
