Barnes & Noble reopened as scheduled yesterday morning, following what the store termed a "heat outage." B&N is still scheduled to close on January 11, and a closing sale is underway. Meanwhile, Redwood was not able to reopen yesterday, following a burst pipe on Monday. They will try again today, according to an employee.

What does it mean when “heat outage” in quotes? Was it not really a heat outage? What happened?
It really was a heat issue. They should have just stayed closed. Their truly last day is coming up. You're correct in pointing out the quotation marks. They were used incorrectly in this story.
The quotation marks make it fake news.
Fascinating pics Dyer... yawn.
5:56: Great pics - a last look inside of a landmark Bethesda business many will miss. Why don't you get moving and pick up Hans Riemer's dry cleaning, punk?
I'm not surprised that B&N is closing. The items in their stores are always more expensive than the same items on their website. I've had the feeling for a long time that they've done this as a way of hastening the demise of their physical stores.
Dyer, if my kid was in one of the classes where you're now assisting at Whitman, I would not be pleased about your public outbursts against your readers. Conduct unbecoming an educator, my man. Or a journalist, for that matter.
Once again Dyer engages with the trolls and ignores the legitimate questions and conversations.
#DodgingDyer
Starting the day be inferring they are liars. They being the "landmark Bethesda business many will miss." Dyer just...couldn't...resist getting in that little dig.
SMH.
@6:13 We have (had?) a B&N member card so you got a 10-15% discount on all purchases made in the store. Maybe that made the prices equivalent to their online prices?
I don't remember all the details as my wife is the one who got the card and just handed it to me whenever I was buying books for our kids.
6:19: Where do you get the idea that I work at Whitman? I have never worked at any school or anywhere in the education field at all.
S/B "Where do you get the idea that I work? I have never worked anywhere at all."
No one has any idea where you work.
Why is this not so "anonymous" blogger making up stories up Dyer? Simply go to his "About Us" page and learn about him. No need to make stuff up.
Now, what do we know about other local journalists and bloggers? Not much.
So the only place we can go to read about Dyer is his self-published biography on his own blog? Hasn't anyone else heard about him?
Did you buy any books, Robert?
7:03 AM is anxiously waiting for the Michael Wolff biography of Robert Dyer.
Until then, his "About Us" page will have to hold you ever.
I wish every local writer would do an "about us" as Robert Dyer has. Many other writers don't even have social accounts. What are they hiding? I know many are freelancers who don't live in Montgomery County. They phone it in from Frederick and such. Nothing wrong with that, but transparency would be nice.
7:08 AM is anxiously awaiting the next post from 7:03 AM.
F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5...
7:03 AM is busy searching for the latest volume written about his role model, Robert Dyer. Not sure when he'll post again.
7:27 AM
What's next, a request for his fax number or perhaps Blackberry Messenger ID?
The comment stands- we know nothing about other local writers. Many of which are freelancers outside of the county or college interns.
Meanwhile, Dyer is well established and has a comprehensive "about us" page.
So Dyer has a single paragraph about himself on a blog that nobody reads.
Does he have a LinkedIn profile?
And how can one have a business that does not have a business address?
Once again. NO ONE can say who posts as anonymous. All this crap about interns, other bloggers, dumpster diving hobos, etc is just that, crap. BS. Bunkum. Poppycock. Balderdash. Blatant lies. Guesses.
Not even Dyer's alleged superior "analytics" can tell him who is pushing "publish."
How does "Tim" actually "know many are freelancers who don't live in Montgomery County. They phone it in from Frederick and such." He/she doesn't. More crap.
Transparency would be "Tim" posting under his/her real name.
7:47 AM ONE MORE TIME: Yes, other bloggers post anonymously here. Good for them, they stay anonymous due to the defamatory statements they make.
And, yes. freelancers and interns are the norm. nothing wrong with that. It is what it is.
"Interns" and "freelancers" receive income for their work.
Does Robert Dyer?
7:57AM - you do not know that for a fact, you are assuming. PERIOD. THE END.
8:06 AM You're like a child, needing the last word.
8:03 AM Hopefully you receive some income from your random trolling on this site. Otherwise, what a waste of your time. You're clearly unemployed or underemployed.
That's exactly what Dyer himself said. Hmmm. Last word? In reality, you stop posting when you lose the discussion.
Nothing more childlike than insisting something isn't true when it irrefutably is true. I'm sorry you can only feel worthwhile by diminishing others.
Dyer reminds me of an old man I know who lives in Florida and spends every morning getting coffee and donuts (Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts) and then to the BN to only pick a book and read it for free daily. Milking the system like a true MoCo Democrat.
8:26 AM You're like a child, needing the last word. Hopefully you receive some income from your random shilling for the troll who runs this site. Otherwise, what a waste of your time. You're clearly unemployed or underemployed.
@ 8:42 - Dyer is even better than that. He goes to Harris-Teeter, scoops up a dozen of their free cookies, then doesn't buy anything there, either.
Again one more time you have absolutely zero way of knowing or proving that. Lol.
8:26 so what is it you’re doing too then? Ha.
"He goes to Harris-Teeter, scoops up a dozen of their free cookies"
For the interns, we call that our "lunch" stipend.
When all else fails, spoof your nemesis. Great distraction.
@8:42
"Dyer...Milking the system like a true MoCo Democrat."
Dyer a Democrat? Lol. Dyer is an avowed and ardent Trump/MAGA supporter.
Anna, you spoofed my name.
Sorry Andy, this is my real name. Right there on my birth certificate.
Thanks for trying so hard to be just like me. I wouldn’t want to be you, either.
One, last look inside Barnes & Noble. Has it been 20 years already?
So glad this story is being covered by a real Montgomery County Resident. Not some Frederick or Fairfax author.
2:29 PM
Or if you're operating out of an apartment high atop Rosslyn, VA and try to cover Bethesda. "I can see Bethesda from my front porch" :)
Wow you stalk Dyer much, 1:29? He has never said where he lives!
and as the Barnes and Noble closes in Bethesda a new one opens in Columbia.
Dyer is the guy that make sure the carts are in place at giant, he has his Velcro snap sneakers and a helmet so he doesn't get hurt
There is a Barnes & Noble at Long Gate shopping center in Ellicott City, just two miles from the Mall at Columbia. The Ellicott City store will probably close after the Columbia store opens.
The new store in Columbia is filling part of the space that Sears vacated recently. It would be interesting to know the floor space of the Columbia store versus that of the Ellicott City store.
The Mall at Columbia is owned by the Rouse Company, whereas Bethesda Row is Federal Realty, which has been experiencing a lot of turnover in their properties.
