Victor Gallery closes in Bethesda

Victor Gallery
has closed at 7034 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda.  The fine rug showroom opened here in 2023. As you can see, the interior has been totally cleared out. Founded by Victor Mashihi, Victor Gallery is a family rug enterprise that began in Egypt in 1916. Here, it may have been the latest victim of the moribund Montgomery County economy, and the County Council's anti-business policies.

Robert- Love your blog but for the Love of God lets make sure we give the lionsshare of the Economic failures of MOCO to with out a doubt the worst County Executive in MOCO history. Other than showing up on Zoom with a five o'clock shadow and a K-mart suit what has this clown done other than raise taxes and fees ??

Um, no. It’s due to increasing restrictions on selling rugs from Iran.

There are many reasons a art/furniture gallery closes. It could be they were under funded or the items were too expensive, wrong size (large items can only fit in large houses), not in style at the time. Also, poor marketing/advertising, and owner not realizing the effort needed can be factors. Coming from a family of small business owners any or all of the factors can contribute to a failed small business.

Along with a shrinking market for flying carpets.

How many oriental carpet shops does Bethesda have already? I can't imagine why he thought we needed another one. And Robert, you need to find a synonym for "moribund" as you use the word more often than Lovecraft used "eldritch." It has become trite through overuse.
