Assault at bus stop in Bethesda

Montgomery County police were called after someone was assaulted at a bus stop in the Westbard area of Bethesda Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026. The assault was reported at 7:30 AM in the 5500 block of Massachusetts Avenue, a shocking turn of events in broad daylight in a quiet residential area, continuing a recent trend of violent crimes being brazenly committed during daylight hours. It took place at a bus stop near Little Falls Library, Westland Middle School, Little Flower School, and Pilgrim Lutheran Church. What is happening to our community?

What's happening in our community is a complete failure in the executive, legislative and judicial branches in MC/MD. "Crime happens" is one of the excuses by a liberal voting lemming because enforcing existing law is a bridge too far. Trump proved what's possible in DC and at the border but don't let facts get in the way of the progressive mantra.

Diversity is most definitely not our strength.

I assume this is the incident you are referring to? Definitely concerning but certainly not a violent crime.

Good Morning, Westland Middle School Community,

I am writing to inform you of a concerning incident that occurred this morning at one of our bus stops. At approximately 7:30 a.m., a female student was approached by two unidentified men in a dark-colored sedan as she was walking to the Woodmont Avenue bus stop. One individual spoke to the student and briefly grabbed her. The student was able to safely move away from the vehicle, reach the bus stop, and board the bus. The vehicle circled the bus stop and then followed the bus to the school.

Upon arrival, the student immediately reported the incident to school staff, and the police were notified right away. Montgomery County Police are actively investigating and will have an increased presence in the area, including the bus stop and around the school. As a school, we will monitor vehicles at arrival and dismissal. This incident is deeply concerning. The safety and well-being of our students is my utmost priority.

We will be reinforcing safety reminders with students, including how to respond if approached by strangers, the importance of staying aware of their surroundings, and seeking help from trusted adults immediately.

10:58: Definitely concerning, and definitely an assault. Thanks for sharing this important information.

That's more like a possible abduction attempt and not by an estranged family member since the child didn't know the attacker.

Burying the descriptions, par for this course.

So it sounds like the actual assault happened in downtown Bethesda rather than in front of Westland MS.

2 patrol cars at my favorite Mexican burrito truck El Jalapeno as employees are having animated discussions with MoCo PoPo. I just got a fish taco there an hour ago. Any idea what happened, Robert, anyone? No scanner, no information. Those folks are really nice & serve really good food and it's disturbing to me that some type of crime just happened to them or their Ma 'n Pa business.
