Dumpster fire Montgomery County Council fails to pick up trash again in Bethesda

Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner was put in the unenviable position of having to declare his candidacy for County Executive last night, even as his constituents' trash hadn't been picked up for the second consecutive day. One resident reported he has already told Berliner directly that he would never vote for him, because he can't even collect the trash. Tuesday night in the Springfield neighborhood of Bethesda, recycling bins were still full at the curbs.

A County vehicle was trailing a recycling truck as the sun sank lower and night began to fall. The County employee said that recycling was being picked up then, but that yard waste would be picked up on Thursday(!). The rats of Bethesda are the only supporters of the Council left at this point.

Being supervised wasn't enough to stop the contractors from doing what they do several times a year - drop a glass item onto the street, and then simply drive off and leave the shards behind to injure tires, kids and animals. These photos were taken minutes after the truck drove off.

Is this the best our County Council can provide with the highest taxes in Montgomery County history? Is this what County taxpayers deserve? Looking at the bins sitting out all over Bethesda for a third day, and this broken glass - is this why these Council clowns are getting paid $137,000 a year?

As they do frequently,

street for residents to run over,
and kids and pets to potentially be
injured

11:44: With all of the scoops I report, and are reheated hours or days later by the small and slightly-failing magazine, I don't have to "try" at all. But they may want to "try" to pay those $60000 in delinquent taxes they owe on the magazine's theater venture.

Berliner only shows up when there are TV cameras. When channel 7 starts covering Bethesda trash, our esteemed councilperson will develop much more interest. Until then, peasants, be gone.

We need to get a giant trash can to follow him around, a guy inside a trash can or recycling bin costume, to every campaign stop.

Berliner still live on Rockville Pike?

How can the man ask MoCo voters for a promotion considering how badly he's handled the Westbard Plan and bungling basic government services like trash collection.

Had quite the opposite experience with Berliner. Found him to be very responsive. Helped with issues pertaining to predatory towing and some broken traffic signals. Understandable why he was elected to his position. Pleasantly surpisss with how engaged the council is. They truly are happy to help constituents.

Berliner's long silence on desecrating the African American cemetery looms large and still doesn't still well with me. So, I could never support Roger on moral grounds.

In addition, in my honest opinion, anyone who voted for this insane Westbard Plan pretty much disqualified themselves for public office in the county. We can do better.

8:43 PM Dyer signs his comments with his name. Been that way since the beginning- you must be new here.

How is it that you know that to be a fact? Please explain that.

9:13pm you said I'm Dyer, I'm not.

6:00: It's one thing to listen to constituents, but they also need to act. The trash is still not being picked up, even after Mr. Berliner publicly responded to complaints.

Their constituents overwhelmingly opposed the Westbard sector plan, yet the Council was not "happy to help constituents" - instead, they voted unanimously to help the developer and themselves, at their constituents' expense.

"The trash is still not being picked up"

Isn't it, though? We're talking about a delay in picking up yard trimmings, yes?

Robert Dyer said...

1:22: We're talking about trash, waste, refuse, part of which is the yard waste, which was not picked up for several days. So, no, it is not being picked up, as the article indicated.
