Bethesda man killed in Potomac collision

Bethesda resident Hersh Bhansaly, 25, was one of two men killed when two vehicles collided in Potomac Friday night around 7:55 PM. Bhansaly and fellow backseat passenger Brian Everett Laurence, 25, of Potomac, were pronounced dead at an unidentified local hospital after the 2015 Mercedes CLA45 AMG they were riding in collided with a 2012 Ford Expedition. The vehicles were traveling Oaklyn Drive in opposite directions when they collided at Pleasant Gate Lane, according to Montgomery County police detectives.

The Mercedes' driver, Daniel Alex Epstein, 25, of West Hollywood, California, and an unidentified adult male front-seat passenger, were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Expedition - Addison Leigh Poole, 16, of Derwood - was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, as were her two female juvenile passengers. Whether the Expedition was a parent's car, or was purchased by the driver, whoever made that decision was very smart - that is one of the safest cars for a kid to drive, and that decision probably saved the lives of everyone inside Friday night.

Police have not yet determined the cause of the collision. Anyone with information regarding this crash is urged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620.

Love your "facts," Dyer. IIHS doesn't recommend any large SUVs for teen drivers because of their too-powerful engines. Expedition isn't even eligible to be on the list of safest drivers for teens: http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicles-for-teens

And until we know details, it's hard to say who was safest. I'd say if a 16 year old driving a tank like that was speeding and crossed the center line and killed two innocent people in another vehicle, it was actually a remarkably stupid vehicle choice for her.

Wearing seatbelts saved the Expedition passengers' lives. Neither of the decedents was wearing a seatbelt.

6:25: We don't know who was at fault. IIHS assumes all teen drivers are irresponsible. Parents are the most qualified to know the responsibility level of their child, not IIHS. Put your kid in the biggest vehicle possible. Then he or she survives the wreck regardless of the circumstances, and that is the only thing that matters.

1:52: No doubt seatbelts are important. Not putting them on is like crossing the road without looking both ways.

"Put your kid in the biggest vehicle possible."

LOL

That's not how it works, Robert. I'm glad you don't have kids.

"Dyer being Dyer" = the worst troll of all

Dyer seems to be saying, "the more irresponsible the teen driver, the bigger the vehicle you need to buy them."

The 16 year old was illegally driving on a restricted license, according to reports. She should not have had minor passengers according to what I read. The hospital was Suburban. I know, I was in the ER on Friday night. I saw Mr. Bhasaly's father and I believe his fiancee. I heard about the accident. Very sad. Let's not blame anyone until all the facts are known.

The fault has been found to be the driver of the ridiculously expensive and over-priced Mercedes driven by a punk who was found negligent and will soon stand trial for manslaughter as he was driving at about 110 mph in a residential zone. Hope he goes to jail.
