There are new questions regarding whether the store will actually occupy the full bookstore space. The existing escalators have been removed, and property owner Federal Realty appears to be offering an upper space for lease. I inquired with Anthropologie to ask how many actual floors the store will take up, but they have so far declined to respond. Many are also wondering how the outdoor Terrain Cafe seating will impact the plaza in front of the old bookstore space. You can see the fountain is outside of the construction barriers erected this weekend.

@ 6:16 AM - The former Barnes & Noble occupied 37,500 square feet.[1]
So it looks like they have an extra 13,500 square feet to lease. I guess that's the second floor which will be combined with the adjacent former Kinko's/Make Meaning site.

I can't imagine that this new store needs the same square footage as the Barnes and Noble. I also think that just occupying the first floor is too much space for this retailer. I would be surprised if this store lasts more than a couple of years. By 2020, I would guess a new tenant would be moving in.
@8:27 What may help them is they'll have a big restaurant also, so that may keep revenues up. How is Pottery Barn doing across the street? Seems like they sell similar stuff right? (Never been to Anthro before)
@8:50: Anthropologie sells women's clothing; Pottery Barn is a home furnishings store.

I don't know that they'll be out by 2020. They do fine in Chevy Chase, with merchandise jammed into a small space.
