Some of the finishing touches are being added to the facade of The Lauren, the ultra-luxury condo building at 4901 Hampden Lane. The balcony railings have a bit of a South Beach art deco accent to them. You can also see the work being done on the sidewalk pavers, which match the Bethesda Streetscape guidelines. Some of the grander aspects of the main lobby entrance are taking shape, as well (trust me, the "4901" sign temporarily tacked up over the canopy isn't a permanent one).
Inside the building's units, which range from the several millions to a $10 million+ penthouse, each owner will have a standard Thermador Wine Preservation Column. That will come in handy to chill selections from the in-house sommelier, Jarad Slipp. Valets, concierges and other staff will be trained to the standards of the world's finest hotels and the best Manhattan luxury condos, according to the promotional materials.
The 29-unit building is aiming to be downtown Bethesda's most-exclusive address. On the rooftop, developers 1788 Holdings and Persimmon Capital Partners plan pergola-covered dining areas, "living green walls," a gourmet outdoor kitchen, plasma TVs, and sweeping views over Bethesda Row and the Central Business District.
You also don't have share guest suites in this building. There is an option to purchase private guest suites for use by friends, relatives or business colleagues visiting from out of town. And inaugural buyers at The Lauren will also receive a year-long membership in the RdV Ambassadors program, which bestows a variety of perks related to the RdV Vineyards where Slipp is the master sommelier and estate director.

Saith Dyer: "trust me"
LOL
The residents of this building won't need the Metro nearby since they'll probably rarely use it; too bad this building didn't go to Westbard and had affordable housing built in its place here.
What are those weird ducts below the balconies in the last picture? Is that where the sewage gets dumped out onto the sidewalk, where the hoi polloi will have to deal with it?
Laughable that the cheaper Bethesda condos that are being built or recently finished all look better than this one. The services must be weighted more than the looks.
I have thought this was one ugly building since the outside got its finish on it.
8:05 AM Presumably those are dryer vents?
I think it's a good design.
They're not going with what a standard rental building (like Bainbridge or something) looks like. This will be a timeless classic will very high end materials.
@8:05 AM and @9:28 AM - I figured they were a combo dryer and stove venting system?
Some say South Beach Art Deco. Others say already dated and ugly. :(
The darker colored renderings look much better. Maybe they still will paint it? Wishful thinking? This is old lookin already.
Update: Robert still cannot afford to live here.
Hello, Past Rob - it is I, Future Rob
I think it is wonderful that us Bethesdians did not rest on our laurels with luxury apartments and have made the leap to ultra-luxury with this new building.
9:37 - I think we're in the minority; I like it too.
Not surprising, since I can see the deco and I'm such an Art Deco hound.
We have folks commenting here who are renting dumps and commenting how they don't like this building...lol. You're just bitter because you can't afford to buy a place in a building like this.
The master bathrooms in this place are probably bigger and nicer than your entire crappy apartment.
Wow.
How would you know where any of these commentors live?
How would you presume to know any rationale?
Nice to know that someone's opinion doesn't count in your book.
Sure as hell doesn't count if they're poor!
MORIBUND! or something.
Agree that the architecture might look attractive in South Beach or Santa Monica, but looks out of place in an wealthy urban enclave in the Northeast.
3:44: Local maniac living in angel investor-provided Bethesda housing unit complains about local blogger. And then his comment is deleted.
Low-energy maniac!
4:21 - Hahaha. Brilliant!
4:21 - Dyer's libel of others is unbelievable. There's no way he believes what he says is there? He's just being defensive when people talk about him and lashing out. Must be, right? No way someone could believe what he says.
8:47 AM Get a life. You're a loser and will always be one: today, tomorrow and forever.
You are the one lashing out like a child here.
How old is Elm?
9:34 PM How old is the nutty anonymous blogger posting about his poopy pants here?
He's a man child.
Indeed a nice post to have come across, I must admit that you have done a great work.
