Downtown Bethesda's newest Starbucks in the lobby level of the Hyatt Regency Bethesda hotel looks a lot more posh than the other downtown locations. Furniture is largely in place, and even the coffee machines have been installed. All that's missing are the baristas. The store can be accessed from the hotel lobby, as well as by the general public. Starbucks will have to up its game like this with
Philz Coffee coming to town soon.

Nice addition to downtown, a very nice looking space with lots of comforatable seating, nice lighting and cool exposed concrete walls. But it sure seems odd that from the Hyatt lobby side, you can see behind their service counter. All the junk back there is very unsightly, and messy and will get worse over time. I hope they cover some of that crap, or add some translucent scrim to the glass. I also noted that debris has dropped behind the gap between their back cabinets and glass. A messy assortment of drywall screws and construction dust, on permanent display from the lobby side. Very poorly conceived detail. If I was the Hyatt manager, I would make the clean this up, seal the gap and make them cover their under counter spaces to provide a nicer appearance. Hyatt spent a ton of money on their very sleek and elegant interior and exterior renovation to allow Starbucks to permanently moon us with their back of house butt crack.
Will make for a great sanctuary starbucks....
Perhaps a good thing this is apparently not a Starbucks Reserve, now that wehave a Juice and the Juice and soon a Philz Coffee on Woodmont in Bethesda Row.
Can the homeless use the facilities whilst under construction or must they wait for the official opening?
Walked by today. A great mural has been added to the large concrete walls. Looks nice. I also like that it does not include a ton of small tables that seem to be dominated at most coffee shops by kids doing homework. This was a huge problem at B&N. Kids would tie up lots of seating, especially near the wall outlets, rarely buying any books or food. No wonder they pulled the plug.
With B&N gone, Starbucks should open a shop in the Morella Library.

Very cool they let Robert in for a sneak preview. Looking forward to this starbucks location, and it's another destination right there in the center of bethesda other than the metro itself.
