Le Creuset has been holding a 50%-off sale, and the showroom inventory has been dwindling significantly in recent days, with a number of empty shelves. I have now confirmed that the store will be closing, as soon as this week. A final day has not been announced yet, however, so there is still time to get some bargains.
The high-end cookware store has been open at 7116 Bethesda Lane for a decade. It is among the brand names that gave cachet to Bethesda Row as an upscale retail destination.

I never understood how they stayed in business so long. I find their stuff overpriced and I can buy it online if I really need it anyway. It's so heavy -- who wants to lug it out from the store?
How many vacant spaces will that be in the "alley" area then? Redwood out, Creuset is out. Who's next?
Dolcezza seems to do OK, as does that hair salon.
Williams Sonoma is around the corner. Bethesda Row is having a tough time - much like the collection at Chevy Chase..
Like 5:33 said, people are still shopping, just not in stores. It's not overpriced, it lasts forever and cast-iron is perfect for even-heating. I inherited a 40+ year old LC pan, well used and in near perfect condition...works just as well as my newer ones.
Plus, people don't cook much anymore, including me. ;)
Williams-Sonoma also sells LC. I guess folks living in Chevy Chase and the south end of Bethesda are too lazy to cross Bethesda Avenue.
Bethesda Lane is the next Lakeforest Mall. Just a matter of time before criminals, drug addicts, gang members and homeless start hanging out there.
It seems that a lot of ten year leases are expiring now that Bethesda Row is ten years old. Who knew? The churn of retail and restarant tenants is a constant. As long as new ones rotate in, this is a healthy event. Amazon Books, Anthropolgie and Co, Joe and the Juice, Philz Coffee, Fish Taco, are all new, Lululemon relocated. The sky is not falling.
Class 520 is still the most popular new place in the Bethesda Row area, and it's in Shoppes of Bethesda.
When Bethesda grows up it wants to be like Silver Spring. I frequently go to the AFI theater, and the downtown area is always crowded. Federal Realty continues to add expensive who cares merchants and so-so restaurants.
Bethesda Lane is now the place to go for quiet. It will be antique stores and a hair salon.
No nightlife in Bethesda but we got a bunch of super sized "B" letters around town.

^ This. No reason Bethesda Lane can't be outstanding, but if even Lebanese Taverna says toodles, the problem is Federal Realty.
So only the 16th brand new Amazon Books in the world, and one of the very few new large Anthropologie & Co. department stores with cafe, and one of the east coast’s first Philz Coffee Shops are all signs of Bethesda’s demise? I hated Redwood, never bought a Le Cruset pot, or wine from Cork and Fork or Vino Volo. This turnover of tenants seems to be healthy to me. Yes B&N was handy and easy to kill time without buying stuff, but I’m surprised they lasted as long as they did. Federal Realty sure found a new anchor very quickly.
Lol
