Tirepalooza in downtown Bethesda

The poor condition of Montgomery County roads has led to a boom in tire retailers and service centers in recent months. Full replacement signage now been installed at NTB, which recently took over the Merchant's tire and repair center at 7851 Old Georgetown Road.

We now also have official confirmation of my scoop regarding a new retail tire concept from Goodyear on Elm Street. Signage was just installed for Roll by Goodyear, the brand name the tire giant trademarked just months ago.

I am pretty sure these chains had expansion plans before the potholes popped up around here, Bobbypants. A little real-world business perspective would be oh so useful to you.

It won't last 6 months.

"The poor condition of Montgomery County roads has led to a boom in tire retailers and service centers in recent months"

I find the condition of most roadways in our County to be fine. Which roadways are "like in the Third World", as you have said several times previously, and causing residents' tires to wear out prematurely?

Maybe people would take you seriously if you didn't include such ridiculous hyperbole (and outright bullshit) in your articles.

I love these reports and what Dyer is doing for Bethesda with his reporting.

How many people actually need to look at and feel the tires they're buying? Why would they need make a trip to a showroom before having tires delivered to them, rather than just ordering online?

This is as if Netflix opened a store where you look at the DVDs that are available, then have them sent to your home separately.

I think the big idea is that you can order your tires online, or at the store, and then drop off your car then stroll around a walkable downtown, maybe have lunch or dinner, while they mount, balannce and install your new tires nearby or from a mobile truck or central shop. Much better than wasting 2 hours in a greasy tire store waiting room in some industrial warehouse neighborhood.

It’s nice to see that space filled in. Sure it’s not a Barnes & Noble, but better than a dark storefront.

This is a great concept, particularly as we have lost many service stations in the downtown.

All of Bethesda shudders in anticipation daily right before Dyer's Bethesda news email newsletter goes out. Reports like this make it a must read subscription.

No one cover's Bethesda's retail beat like Robert Dyer. 24/7. Daily.

Where would you "drop off your car"? The store is strictly a showroom and there are no facilities there. How would a "mobile truck" install your tires while you are parked on Elm Street or in the County garage? There is no room to access your tires or to park the truck.

Isn't the term "mobile truck" redundant?

Seems like driving to Bethesda Row, looking for a place to park, then waiting for your car to be towed to a remote shop, have the tires replaced, then towed back, would take a lot more time than just driving to the shop outside of Bethesda Row.

Why would you have your car towed if you can drive it to the store? This is just for new tires, not flat repairs. I believe they will have a valet take your car to a local shop mount and install the tires. This is just an easy way to buy your tires and shop or dine while they are installed. The mobile truck is for customers who chooose to have their tires installed at their home or office. They don’t even need to go to the store, just shop and purchase online and they will come to you for installation.

1:33 PM Agreed! Great service and appreciate Robert Dyer making us aware of it.

So how much more will this service cost, than taking your car to the Arlington Road store yourself?

Can someone please explain to me what Bill Clinton and Rihanna have to do with buying tires in Bethesda?

Is Roald who we think he is?

@ 7:44 PM - Yes. Ever notice that Dyer never, ever engages in conversation with his "little helpers"?

7:49pm Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping

I think it's pretty obvious that Roald/I remember Giffords/Friends of Woodmont Triangle/Boyce Boyles are all the same person: either Dyer himself or a lackey.

Seriously, who else would write comments like that out of the blue?

7:28am the fact you spent even a minute pondering this is disturbing

Here’s how it works:

Guests start their shopping online with a seamless experience at RollByGoodyear.com or in a showroom. Roll by Goodyear showrooms are located in vibrant lifestyle centers where people live, work and play.
Once tires are purchased either online or in-store, guests can pick from a handful of installation options. They can drop off their keys at a showroom and enjoy the nearby amenities or Roll by Goodyear will provide valet service that will pick up a guest’s vehicle from a location of their choice and bring it to back to wherever they are. People can also schedule a mobile installation van that will come to where they are and install their tires.
The entire installation will be accompanied by real-time email or text status updates so no time is spent wondering when your vehicle will be ready.
Goodyear conducted significant pre-market testing for Roll and the results were extremely favorable across all demographics, particularly with millennials.

While Roll by Goodyear will look, feel and transact differently from Goodyear’s traditional company-owned stores, they are backed by the 120-year history of innovation, quality and superior performance of Goodyear.

Roll by Goodyear showrooms in Washington D.C. Metro Area:

Shoppes of Bethesda: 4919 Elm Street, Bethesda, MD 20814

Downtown Crown: 321 Ellington Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878

Shoppes at Town Center: 19877 Century Blvd, Germantown, MD 20874

Pike Center: 12103 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852-1605

I agree with Dyer that there is definitely an increased demand for tire shops and tire repair shops. With all the construction going on in Bethesda, contractors are leaving debris including many nails and screws all over the streets. This summer, three screws were pulled from my tire and I needed to have two tires plugged in multiple places.
