Donutchew opens at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda (Photos)

Donutchew
has opened in the Dining Terrace food court at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. The mochi donut chain's product is denser - and as the name suggests, chewier - than a traditional donut. They are made with glutinous rice flour, as opposed to the enriched wheat flour of a Krispy Kreme donut. Donutchew is in a kiosk that has seen heavy turnover in the last couple of years, but the company has had early success with its Rio Lakefront location in Gaithersburg.

$3.50 for a donut seems exorbitant even for an upscale mall. I'll bet they signed a very short lease.

Won't be long. Fail. That food court has a few good spots but mostly needs to be totally redone. They need a Slade's which was a Houston's knock off but very good. Montgomery Mall used to have a Slade's but it's been more than a minute. The space adjacent to Shake Shack needs a good sit down place as well as across from the AMC.

nobody goes to the mall to eat, they eat there if they are hungry while shopping and nobody shops at a mall anymore.

The Cheesecake Factory is half full at best on a busy night, Pepe's if they didn't have carry out they would have closed by now. Those places are just waiting for the mall area to be redeveloped.
