Signage installed at Ruta Ukrainian restaurant in Bethesda

The sign is up at Ruta, opening soon at 4862 Cordell Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Also in place is the final letter "A" in the other logo painted on the side wall of the patio out front. The Ukrainian restaurant's first location in Washington, D.C. recently celebrated its first year in business. Over 30,000 diners have patronized the D.C. location in that first year, and ordered 9,114 servings of borscht, the restaurant reports.

During that busy year, Ruta also participated in humanitarian efforts to provide food for Ukrainians living near the frontline of the war in Ukraine. A thousand Ruta food kits were successfully delivered to families in the Kharkiv region, as of April 15, 2024. Construction on the Bethesda location, which was formerly home to MOMO Chicken + Jazz, began in mid-April and is nearing the finish line for opening.

Looking forward to dining there as the food on their DC menu sounds delicious. Ukrainian and other Eastern European food is sadly underrepresented in Bethesda and its surrounds. My dream would be one serving Georgian cuisine.
