Daily Provisions "coming soon" to downtown Bethesda

Daily Provisions has posted coming-soon signage in the windows of its future storefront at 7340 Wisconsin Avenue in The Charles apartment tower in Bethesda. It features the hand-written design aesthetic found on the New York-based chain's signage and other branded materials. The all-day dining concept will join Shake Shack and Dig as Danny Meyer outposts in downtown Bethesda.

The Charles apartment tower has seen neighbor Hampden House's The Food Market, and is raising a Danny Meyer concept in response. Daily Provisions, an all-day dining concept from the Shake Shack founder, has signed a lease for a ground floor space in The Charles at 7340 Wisconsin Avenue. The restaurant will open this year. Meyer launched Daily Provisions in 2017 around the idea of what Manhattanites would want to buy on a daily basis, as opposed to a regional dining destination.

An initial three daily necessities Meyer identified were rotisserie chicken, breakfast sandwiches, and good coffee. Whole roasted Amish chicken became Daily Provisions' signature item, and the Bacon-Egg-and-Cheese and coffee have earned praise. But as often happens in business, an unexpected menu addition threatened to overtake even the chicken. Crullers baked at the original Gotham location became a viral sensation, drawing in donut lovers from far beyond 19th Street.

Daily Provisions will be the third Danny Meyer concept in downtown Bethesda by my count. Dig provides a similar dine-in/take-out bakery-restaurant model at 4733 Elm Street. Shake Shack is now under construction at the Element 28 apartment tower about three blocks from The Charles. Charles developer Greystar has successfully replaced an eyesore abandoned gas station with 310 apartments, and the dark blue exterior and hand-painted white font of Daily Provisions.

Sidewalk reopens in front of The Charles in Bethesda ahead of January opening

The Wisconsin Avenue sidewalk has reopened in front of The Charles, the new apartment tower nearing completion at 7342 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. It had been closed for about two years. The building is now leasing. First residents of The Charles are expected to move in on January 19, 2026, if all goes according to schedule.

The property's official website is accepting submissions for an "interest list" of prospective tenants. Developer Greystar anticipates the first residents moving in during Q4 of 2025.

The Charles may be the fastest-constructed apartment tower in downtown Bethesda. Located at 7340 Wisconsin Avenue, it has risen on a former gas station site that sat mired in years of delays. But once developer Greystar took charge, the project has moved forward like clockwork ever since, from groundbreaking to where we are now in September 2025. Obviously, construction contractor John Moriarty & Associates has to take the bulk of the credit for that. The first residents are expected to move in by Q4 2025, although the website is still just a static image, alongside a form to join the mailing list of potential tenants. It does not mention leasing or hard hat tours yet.

Here's a look at the rapid progress on The Charles, a new apartment tower under construction at 7340 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. The 26-story building replaces an Exxon gas station on the site. Extensive glass installation has been performed by contractor Advanced Window, Inc. Developer Greystar anticipates the first residents moving in during Q4 of 2025.

The new apartment tower at 7340 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda has apparently been branded as The Charles. It is currently rising on the site of a former Exxon gas station. The retail space in the ground level is being marketed as a potential restaurant location, with kitchen venting installed. That would be a positive development if realized.

When completed, the building will hold 310 residential units. Developer Greystar anticipates the first residents moving in during Q4 2025, and delivery of the completed project in early 2026.

Several more floors have been added to the apartment tower rising at 7340 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda since my last update. The structural framework of the tower's "base," an architectural feature found in nearly all of the high-rises constructed since passage of the 2017 Bethesda Downtown master plan, is nearly complete. At completion, a 310-unit apartment building with ground floor retail space will have replaced a long-vacant Exxon gas station atop the Bethesda Metro station. 

Developer Greystar anticipates the first residents moving in during Q4 2025, and delivery of the completed project in early 2026. Construction has been moving ahead full steam, without delay, by all visible indications.

The new apartment tower project at 7340 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda is now one story above street level. A former Exxon gas station that sat vacant for years has been rapidly transformed since developer Greystar broke ground on the site in November of 2023. The future building will include 315,000 gross square feet of development, 300 to 308 residential units, ground floor retail, and around 158 parking spaces. It will sit near the entrance to the Purple Line light rail, and between two entrances to Metro's Red Line subway.
