Dig opening in Bethesda

New York City-based chain Dig has leased the vacant Mexicue space at 4733 Elm Street in Bethesda. Several prospective tenants were reportedly interested in the highly-visible corner adjacent to Bethesda Row, but the restaurant brand backed by Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer has prevailed. Dig serves seasonal, casual cuisine based around produce it sources from its own New York farm and others. The menu is centered around a bowl format that will be familiar to patrons of Sweetgreen, Cava, Chipotle and others.

There are also takeout trays available for all of the meat, fish, side item and dessert selections, targeted toward at-home family dining. Dishes include Hot Honey Chicken, Spicy Lime Leaf Salmon, Kale Caesar and Avo Grain Bowl. Diners can also - as you may have guessed - build their own bowl. Desserts include an oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookie and a flourless brownie. With a relatively spartan menu, the emphasis appears to be on the freshness of the ingredients and the quality of the preparation, and diners will deliver their judgement on both accordingly.

Very interesting. Their pricing seems on par with Flower Child which is an amazing place. Will they have seating similar to Flower Child for those who don't want carryout? Danny Meyer is a bonafide genius so no doubt it'll thrive here. I wish more local players would come in though. Everything is so expensive, the only ones who can afford the rent are New Yorkers.

They are already in the area at 1301 Wisconsin Ave NW in Georgetown.

Dig is not a Danny Meyer's concept, his investment firm, Enlightened Hospitality Investments, invested $15 million into Dig. What's more interesting is Tacombi, currently opened in Bethesda Row, and Chip City Cookies, opening soon in Bethesda Row, both received investment dollars from EHI. If the trend continues, I have to imagine Bethesda Row may be home to a Slutty Vegan, Salt & Straw, and Joe Coffee Company soon.

We loved Dig in NYC and are pumped it's coming here. I've found their quality to be much better than Flower Child.
