Barrel & Crow gets chef, menu, sign; plans April opening in Bethesda

The sign is up, and Nick Palermo has been named Executive Chef at Barrel & Crow, the new restaurant concept taking over the former Freddy's Lobster + Clams space on Cordell Avenue. He posted a preliminary menu on local dining site DonRockwell.com yesterday. It ranges from oysters on the half shell with pickled ramp mignonette, to Berkshire Pork raviolis and 21 Day Dry-Aged Roseda Beef, with Old Bay rustic potatoes, grilled jumbo asparagus, and house-made steak sauce.

"We plan to offer regional American food mostly in the the $18 to $24 range for dinner," Palermo wrote in his DonRockwell.com post, "along with a couple items in the $30 range. We are looking to be a great neighborhood restaurant for people to come to and enjoy some great comforting food and drink, at a decent price point."

Palermo is best known to area diners for turning Potomac's Old Angler's Inn into a legitimate dining destination in recent years.

Out of curiosity, what was wrong with Old Angler's Inn before?

It was illegitimate, obviously.

Will Dyer credit Hans Riemer for this?

That's a good point. If Dyer wants to credit Riemer for every closing, shouldn't he credit Riemer for every opening as well?

Riemer touted his nightlife taskforce as an accomplishment. No one ever fact checked that.

It's fair to ask what he accomplished exactly and where are the improvements.

Dyer touted his being "a lifelong Bethesda resident" as an accomplishment. No one ever fact-checked that.

We must see the birth certificate!

@9:42AM Why so hung up on Dyer being a life long resident?

Why does Dyer need to force everyone to read, for the five-hundredth time, that he is a "lifelong Bethesda resident", before they can view the rest of this site on a mobile phone?

Presumably there are folks coming into the site for the first time?

9:42: Last time I checked, birth certificates do not tell you how long an adult has lived in a particular jurisdiction.

"decent price point"

Not hardly

Haha yeah that's not quite decent price point.
