New Bethesda Volkswagen dealership sets opening date

Ourisman Volkswagen has mailed out an announcement to Bethesda residents about its pending move from Washington, D.C. to downtown Bethesda. The dealership says it currently plans to open its new location at 7001 Arlington Road on April 13.
Autobahn editions on sale
Ourisman is also having a moving sale, as it winds down at its Wisconsin Avenue location in the District. Some of the cars on sale have classic VW names, like "Autobahn", in the best traditions of "Wolfsburg Edition". I always have been a fan of the classic VW models - the Rabbit/Golf, Beetle, Scirocco, Fox, Corrado, and - of course - the Volkswagen Bus.
"Last dealer in DC." The District's
loss is Maryland's gain
This new dealership, which will be in the ground floor of the new luxury apartment building at 7001 Arlington, is a throwback to the classic years of Bethesda when there were car dealerships seemingly on every block downtown. It's an encouraging sign of normality at a time when the District, now firmly the War on Cars capital of the world, has purged itself of car dealerships - to the detriment of its residents, the environment (when DC drivers are forced to expend more emissions just to get their cars serviced) and common sense.

Ourisman Honda should buy up that tire place and put their entrance on Arlington road and group the dealerships and then use the Bethesda lane frontage for retail that fits Bethesda row.

And the service shop needs to move too.

Well ok that's not a personal opinion or anything. But that's his right as a blogger with his blog. Or wait, is it journalist?

Article starts out great as a news piece and just spirals into Robert's usual ranting opinions.

It's only trolling if you are aware of the joke. :)

You just described most of the posts on Riemer's fav bethesda blog.

I can't imagine how ourisman honda remains there. Perfect spot for a highrise.

Convenient place though if you want a dealer nearby.

Riemer is a dyer site fan?

Everyone reads Dyer's site.

of course Riemer reads Dyer's site. where else is he going to get his news? one of the fraud poser other sites? you know which one im referring to

Sitting at home, waiting for USPS to deliver the day's junk mail. "Investigative journalism" at its finest.

Downtown Bethesda residents wished BethesdaNow would use junk mail.

Blogger Aaron Krut trespassed into my building and slid ads for his blog under every door instead. It was a nice glossy card, but it created quite a mess to throw them all away.

Not exactly environmentally friendly Aaron :)

"classic VW names, like 'Autobahn'"

This is a joke, right?

What's wrong with a Honda dealership? Too ghetto for Bethesda? The Rolls Royce dealership down the street closed shop last year, so maybe Bethesdans are feeling a little more frugal these days.

"DC drivers are forced to expend more emissions just to get their cars serviced"

Just how often do you have to take your car in for repairs? Seriously?

Anonymous said...

Yeah I think if you calculated this out it's a net gain for the environment if there are less cars in downtown and more alternative commuters.

Anonymous said...

Lol. So that the retail side can be more cohesive. And the dealer side would be more cohesive. :)

Why is everyone afraid to reference other sources and names? We are grown ups aren't we? Are you talking about bethesdanow? Bethesdamag? Gazette? The Washington post? Express? Washingtonian? Other? Lol

1:34 PM: Nobody cares about other local sites. We're here for the news and info, not to read about what other bloggers are doing.

Because journalists always exist in perfect isolation from one another.

12:10: You must not be following your automobile service schedule if you think maintenance is a rare thing. Now multiply that times the number of cars on the road, and you've got a major increase in emissions - created by the same politicians who claim they are improving the environment. Hypocrisy at its best.

7:58: And when other websites reported a mailer regarding the Bethesda Metro Center plaza, you were strangely silent in their comment sections that day. Troll commenting at its finest.

Isn't this the point of the push towards multi-modal transportation? So that we can reduce the number of vehicles on the road? There's certainly no one arguing more cars is good for the environment.

Is Georgetown Day School, for whose benefit the last car dealership in Washington DC is being so cruelly sacrificed, a soldier in the War on Cars?

Anonymous said...

LOL, when did Dan Reed get added to his Enemies List?

Robert Dyer said...

3:28: Does Georgetown Day School pass the zoning laws in DC, or serve on the DC City Council?

Flynn said...

Yeah I think some clarification on the good for the environment comment would be useful to your readers (and the pundits). Thanks.

Flynn said...

I'm guessing Ourisman makes a killing at that location.

So far that makes Riemer, Kraut, and Reed.

Anonymous said...

And don't forget Leventhal, who "tried to secede from Maryland".

So Riemer, Kraut, Reed, and Leventhal make four. Any more?
