Public meeting scheduled for 8000 Wisconsin project in downtown Bethesda

The developers of 8000 Wisconsin Avenue are preparing to submit their preliminary and site plans to Montgomery County for review. A required pre-submission meeting on the plans will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, Conference Room West A, at 4805 Edgemoor Lane.

Known as the Artena Bethesda, the project doesn't appear to have changed since it was first unveiled in November 2017. It will still include up to 441 residential units, and 20000 SF of retail and restaurant space. The building will be jammed between Toll Brothers City Living's 8008 Wisconsin project, and JGB Smith's 7900 Wisconsin development, the latter of which is well underway in construction.

The design advisory panel asked them to create more separation between the building to the south to help break down the massing and avoid the appearance of a single block. This might be achieved with shifting planes of the building wall, if not a full separation. Seems like these theee together will create a nice dense area in town, and create a new node.

Thanks for the update.

I like all the passthrough alleys. One here and at 7900. Helps avoid a long block of walking all the way around. Lets hope for some high quality retail tenants in three years when the demand in Bethesda catches up with the retail supply (3,000+ well compensated Marriott employees downtown each day).

Enhanced porosity on these long blocks does help by creating interior places for more retail and restaurants. Outdoor dining on an interior passthrough would likely be much nicer that siting at a table on Wisconsin. I’m not a fan of the long outdoor dining area at True Food on Wisconsin. Not cool to suck in some diesel bus fumes while sipping your Kale Aid...
