Hawkers Asian Street Fare opens at Bethesda Row (Photos)

The long-awaited debut of Hawkers Asian Street Fare at Bethesda Row is here. Hawkers is now open at 7117 Bethesda Lane. They have indoor seating at 25% capacity, and outdoor seating with heat lamps available.

Looks nice! Put a few more places like this in close proximity to it and Downtown Bethesda may actually have a nightlife again.

I would love having a Jinya Ramen open up in Downtown Bethesda. Perhaps open it where PassionFish used to be.

Looking forward to it!

Jinya would indeed be a great addition! Federal Realty leases their space in Pike & Rose, and they seem to repeat some of the same tenants in Bethesda Row, like Nando Peri Peri, so perhaps a second location in downtown would be possible. Perhaps the former Deluxe Bar & Grill space. We are getting a new fast casual Chi-Ko’s at the former Prima space. The Passion Fish space is not part of Federal Realty’s holdings.

I predict that Hawkers will be a home run, and will re-activate Bethesda Lane. Not sure I would like to lease an apartment facing the courtyard at this point, as the music is pretty loud from the outdoor speakers alone. With the doors open and filled with diners, it will be a lot like the noise level that actual Asian Hawker alleys and streets experience. But I’m sure the aromas drifting up to the Upstairs at Bethesda Row will be enticing.

Well at least the Upstairs neighbors don't have to worry about the noise from them being open for in-room dining past 10PM anymore.... Thanks Gov. Hogan! Heck of a job, as we all know that that COVID is much more infectious at 10:01 PM than at 9:59 PM.

If this insanity doesn't end soon, Hawker's will go the way of PassionFish....

@6:54 AM: That's a good point. Perhaps we could see a Jinya somewhere else downtown as you mentioned.

I predict Hawkers will do well. We just need a few more places like it to get to a critical mass to be self-sustaining.

Gov. Hogan's recent order (on top of Elrich's) will substantially affect Hawkers though. I hope they can pull through. Talk about opening a restaurant at the worst possible time.

One thing I'd love to see in Bethesda would be a Taim. There's currently one in Georgetown and one in Dupont Circle. Shouk would also be nice if possible.

I feel so badly for PassionFish and all the staff that got laid off. What a shame.

By the way, a new Asian restaurant just opened in the Westlake Crossing center Monday, The Wok and during the soft opening, Monday thru Wednesday, they offered a 15% discount.

I’m not sure how well this place will do. Place looks great but the food was meh and expensive. The wontons in the Wonton noodle soup and the dumplings were TERRIBLE. I ate there yesterday (Wed) just past lunch time. The filling in both was absolutely dense and tasteless. With great Asian food in the area, in order to compete, Hawkers needs to make better food. The roti was fine but not as good as Penang’s.

Not sure how well this place will do. While the decor is nice the food was just meh and expensive. Ate there yesterday (late lunch time) and the wontons in the wontons noodle soup and dumplings were TERRIBLE. Filling dense and tasteless. I couldn’t eat more than one of each. Waste of $20. The roti was good but not as good as Penang’s. With great Asian restaurants close by, Hawker’s will really need to really improve their food.
