Little Falls Parkway road diet vote moved to April 27 Planning Board meeting

A worksession and expected final vote on the proposed Little Falls Parkway road diet by the Montgomery County Planning Board has been rescheduled. It will now take place at the board's April 27, 2023 meeting. The proposal would permanently establish the existing temporary road diet that has reduced the parkway to one lane in each direction between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue in Bethesda-Chevy Chase.

71% of speakers at the March 30 public hearing on the issue opposed the proposal, including the leaders of Kenwood and the Town of Somerset that directly abut the parkway. But less than 24 hours later, planning department staff recommended approval of the road diet anyway. Asked if they believed planning staff should make a recommendation without first making a good faith effort to review all oral and written testimony, video footage, and exhibits submitted by residents, County Councilmembers Andrew Friedson (D - District 1), Gabe Albornoz (D - At-Large), Evan Glass (D - At-Large), Will Jawando (D - At-Large) and Laurie-Anne Sayles (D - At-Large) all declined to respond.

What a shocker said by nobody. You know what the problem here is folks? Believe it or not, it isn't the local officials and politicians but the voters who elect them. The politicians in this area (I would argue Doug Duncan would today by a Republican) are all Far Left. They are always going to do stuff like this and more. I seriously doubt that the majority of the county's electorate shares their views. Even if the voters have become more liberal, they aren't crazy and I bet are not in favor of insane ideas like this nor do they appreciate their voices being summarily ignored and dismissed. It's really outrageous and deeply concerning that every one of these local politicians are rubber stamped without challenge every time.

Every, single one of these officials who have allowed this to happen should be fired. Every member of the county planning board should be removed immediately. You know, hundreds of Lululemon wearing, yoga mat carrying soccer moms showed up to a BLM rally in Bethesda in recent years and yet very few say a word about this which negatively affects them and many others in the area. It's really unbelievable.

That's all we need to know, in a nutshell ... when's the next election?

Isn't this 'road diet' being sued by Kenwood? Or was that thrown out?

I cannot believe my eyes and ears that this is happening.
They will not hesitate to jack up our property taxes.
However, when it come to cutting services and inconveniencing us they win the Nobel Prize.

100% agree with JAC comments above! This is insanity and totally snubs the public’s voices!

1:23 - So perfectly stated.

123, next election is irrelevant if your fellow citizens keep mindlessly pulling the "D" lever as they will keep doing. I voted with my feet and now have 0% state income tax. I recommend you all do the same.

@6:41/JAC Thanks! :-) Good points on your part, too. Ditto @5:21

@7:04 Moving is an option for many but not all. If you're still in the mid-Atlantic, I'm guessing you're in Delaware?

Off-topic here, but, Robert, what's up with the AI generated images lately? I get trying to convey a concept with a image, but if it's completely fake, I feel that some journalistic integrity would dictate putting a disclaimer on the picture stating that it is fake.

It's so obvious it's 'photoshopped' as to be an insult to state to the readership.

132, you are correct of course. My sympathy to those who would like to move but cannot. We now reside in Florida. Delaware has no sales tax and low property tax but does have an income tax comparable to Maryland's. I have found that conservative Florida has certain problems of its own so, no place is perfect apparently.

@4:44 ... You're correct, there are pros and cons no matter where we live. If you've found a better place for you/your family, that's great! Florida's a nice place to visit, but it's too soggy for me as far as putting down roots :-) Take care, @1:32 PM
