Bethesda restaurant, apartment building threatened with lien by contractor

A general contractor that performed work at a recently-closed restaurant in downtown Bethesda is now threatening the business owner, and the apartment building it was located in, with a lien. Sheer Service, LLC states that it performed $3,118.10 worth of work for which it has not received payment. It therefore is proposing to place a lien on the business and/or property unless the overdue compensation is provided, according to a formal legal notice to both entities. The work included HVAC equipment diagnosis and maintenance, and Sheer Service says it never received a penny of the money it claims Anthony's Coal-fired Pizza in the Windsor Bethesda apartment tower owes it. Anthony's closed on September 6.

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza & Wings closes in Bethesda

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza & Wings
has permanently closed at 7776 Norfolk Avenue in the Windsor Bethesda apartment tower. Workers were loading the contents of the restaurant into a U-Haul truck this afternoon. Anthony's opened here in January 2020, replacing Community, an upscale diner.

The pizza chain is a victim of BurgerFi, which acquired it in 2021. BurgerFi has since gone into financial distress, and is considering filing for bankruptcy. Windsor Bethesda now has a large restaurant space to fill.

New sign added at Anthony's Coal-fired Pizza in Bethesda

More delivery services than ever are descending upon Bethesda restaurants to pick-up orders during the coronavirus lockdown. Perhaps more signs are needed to help them find the eateries. For whatever reason, a new blade sign has been installed on the corner of Anthony's Coal-fired Pizza at 7776 Norfolk Avenue.

Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza update

Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza is getting closer to opening day in the ground floor of the 7770 Norfolk Avenue apartment tower. To that end, the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce this week announced the pizzeria is the newest member of the chamber. You can see that seating and tables are now inside the restaurant, and flatscreen TVs have been mounted.

Bethesda construction update: Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza (Photos)

Here's an update on the interior construction at Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza in the 7770 Norfolk Avenue apartment tower in downtown Bethesda. The exterior detail of the actual coal-fired oven has become more complex since the initial installation several weeks ago. A New York subway-style wall tile has appeared on some wall/column surfaces. That is balanced by darker tile, wood, and brick on other surfaces.

Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza wants to introduce itself in Bethesda

Construction inside the future Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza in the 7770 Norfolk Avenue apartment tower continues at a deliberate pace. In the meantime, the company begs pizza-crazed passersby to "allow us to introduce ourselves." New signage details what is so special about the pizzeria's coal-fired ovens, handmade dough, imported Italian tomatoes and Wisconsin mozzarella.
Notably missing from the signs is pizzeria investor and legendary Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino. Football fans are still placing their bets as to whether Marino will make an appearance at the grand opening next year.

Coal-fired oven being installed at Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza in Bethesda (Photos)

The oven has arrived and is being installed at the future Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza at 7770 Norfolk Avenue in downtown Bethesda. It's notable that the oven is being brought in at this early stage in construction.
Here is an interesting article about coal-fired pizza ovens that explains they use anthracite coal that produces fewer emissions than bituminous coal, that coal-fired pizza is less smokier in flavor than wood-burning oven pizza, and why the growth of coal-fired pizza will help keep coal miners in Pennsylvania employed rather than in West Virginia.

Bethesda construction update: Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza (Photos)

If there were any doubting Thomases, Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza is finally in the construction phase at 7700 Norfolk Avenue in downtown Bethesda. After an initial demolition of the previous Community interior, the site went dormant for a while. Now things are going full steam, although still in the early phase, and they have applied for their liquor license from Montgomery County. Place your bets on whether co-owner Dan Marino will appear for the grand opening.

Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza Bethesda update

Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza, the restaurant chain taking over the former Community space in the 7770 Norfolk apartment tower, has completed interior demolition. You can see where the counter in the previous restaurant was located on the floor. Now construction of Anthony's must begin, so opening day won't be anytime soon. They do have a liquor license hearing scheduled for September 19.

Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza construction permit

So much pizza news around downtown Bethesda this morning: Now we turn from a popular established pizzeria to a new national chain entry, Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza, coming soon to 7776 Norfolk Avenue. So far, they've been demolishing the old Community diner in there. Now they've filed for a construction permit.

Notably, the $420,000 makeover of the space will include a new outdoor patio. Everything hot served in the 3017 SF restaurant will be prepared in their coal-fired oven, which many pizza fanatics are looking forward to seeing in action. And football fans are wondering if Anthony's investor Dan Marino will make an appearance at the grand opening.
