Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza update

Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza is getting closer to opening day in the ground floor of the 7770 Norfolk Avenue apartment tower. To that end, the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce this week announced the pizzeria is the newest member of the chamber. You can see that seating and tables are now inside the restaurant, and flatscreen TVs have been mounted.

Will my pizza taste like London smog in the 50's? ;-)

So...what exactly do you get by burning coal instead of natural gas, or by using an electric oven?

Mostly a marketing ploy but some people say it tastes better

Thanks Anna - I found that article about half a minute after I posted. Not sure why I couldn't find it yesterday.

Beautiful place. I hope they can last longer than Community.

It has nothing to with marketing. What a moronic comment.

So, what is it then? What does burning coal do that burning gas or using an electric oven can't do? A previous commenter noted that "smokeless" anthracite coal is used in coal-fired ovens, so there wouldn't be an added flavor component from smoke.
