Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza & Wings closes in Bethesda

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza & Wings
has permanently closed at 7776 Norfolk Avenue in the Windsor Bethesda apartment tower. Workers were loading the contents of the restaurant into a U-Haul truck this afternoon. Anthony's opened here in January 2020, replacing Community, an upscale diner.

The pizza chain is a victim of BurgerFi, which acquired it in 2021. BurgerFi has since gone into financial distress, and is considering filing for bankruptcy. Windsor Bethesda now has a large restaurant space to fill.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I'd love to see a big chain family restaurant there...Outback, Chili's, Applebee's, etc.

What? I can't believe that. I don't think folks knew how good it was and it was. That's too bad.

Anthony's was a successful restaurant with good food. Unfortunately, it seems, corporate mismanagement was responsible for it closing.

The service was awful from day 1. I wanted it to get better but it never did and even a few weeks ago it was still awful.

Anthony's is likely the most underrated restaurant in Montgomery County. Their salads & dressings always had impeccable freshness, along with excellent wings & pizza. Huge loss for the community.

This is literally the worst idea ever

Their pizza was one of the best in the area. RIP.

Could be a good spot for an Irish Pub

Was always a reliable option and was a go to place once restaurants reopened after the pandemic

Had Andy's Pizza last night again. I can tell you, without hesitation, Anthony's was multiple times better. Anthony's had it all, nice seating, bar, etc. I agree that service was not great. But again, I don't think folks even knew about it. It's hands down the best pizza in downtown Bethesda. These restaurants won't survive if they don't market themselves. I never saw any media of any kind promoting the place. You can't just open and think the public will find you and come. There are now simply too many options for dining with quite a few of lesser quality than Anthony's. Stinks.

Yeah, I was in there in Friday to get a whole pie to go and they basically ignored me at the register. It's too busy it seems and confusing as to whether you get in line at the slice area or just go straight to the register. I got there before 2 sets of people and they got noticed before me and ordered. When I finally but firmly spoke up a manager looking dude tok my order. My pizza was ready in 5 minutes not 15-20 like they said or what would have been a normal acceptable wait time, however, it was not the best pie because I think it was a ready made one to speed things up but I still was not happy when I got home and saw and ate it. Btw, it was only my 2nd time at Andy's not counting the day I went for only a slice. So , spot-on about the comment about their "service."

Very sad to see Anthony's close, and for the reasons given. Although others may have had a different experience, we always had very good service. Excellent/delish food.

@ 3:47 - there used to be an Outback where the Lionsgate is now.

Outback, yes, was nearby decades ago, would be nice to have back. Probably space too small, but another space next to Starbucks is available.

An Irish pub wired food service would be another good option.
