The master plan amendment process for the Rock Spring area of Bethesda will begin with a meeting Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 7 PM at an open house at Walter Johnson High School (6400 Rock Spring Drive). Residents and business owners are invited to attend, for discussion and feedback. Comments will be recorded on the "graffiti wall' at the event.
You can RSVP online, but it is not required.
For a detailed background on the history of Rock Spring over the last 25 years, see my recent post.

Obsolete business district. Marriott correctly sees the writing on the wall. Thankfully they will soon replace the obsolete mall in White Flint with a new corporate headquarters that is convenient to Metro.
And it will be further hurt by Suburban Hospital's expansion. Once the new facilities are complete, many of the medical offices that are now in the complex between Fernwood and Rockledge can be expected to move to the expanded hospital facility.
any idea why EYA is building townhomes in the office park rather than high rises?
there are no neighbors there to complain about heights.
I would say EYA took advantage of there being no neighbors to increase the density. They are building 168 homes on a piece of land that was once half the parking lot for a single 3-story building.
Oh noes! Nonexistent neighbors are being taken advantage of, by greedy developers!
This is sort of an awkward location in between N/S 270 and 495 with limited thru streets connecting to the area. The mall to the west and HS/retail are also large barriers to navigate around. Makes more sense for residential since the retail barriers are at least things that might be appealing to have near your home.

Convenient to Metro?? It's only convenient if you're a Marriott employee. I am sure everyone else would prefer restaurants or shopping.
