EuroMotorcars upgrading Bethesda showroom (Photos)

EuroMotorcars is upgrading the showroom facing Arlington Road at its downtown Bethesda dealership. The company's President and General Manager Charles Harmel says it is an update for the AMG vehicle display. AMG is the high-performance division of Mercedes Benz.

Ugh. Mercedes. There really should be a Tesla or Range Rover dealership there. Something more befitting of us Bethesdians.

Should be a Purple Line Station.

I love Mercedes. Maybe it's a bit of nostalgia of having tons of them around me while growing up, owning a few in the past and riding in a latte model S class that a friend of mine has but... God they are nice cars.

Anyone with half a brain wouldn't own a Tesla. Mercedes, BMW & Lexus make cars far better with much less environmental impact along with a vast support network. Even if you actually want to drive that electric monstrosity any distance, you'll be tied to their charging network.

How about they add a driveway on Arlington Road so their car delivery trucks don't need to block an entire lane during rush hour traffic by double-parking?

@2:07 AM - My whole life of living in Bethesda I have never understood how they are able to "get away" with having their delivery trucks unload on Arlington Road. As you mentioned, the most annoying part is when the delivery truck is there during rush hour traffic. If I were to park my car in the same spot during the same time it would be towed. If I ever felt the need to get a Mercedes Benz I probably would not get it here due to years of dealing with their delivery trucks.

It's a shame Euromotorcars and Giant just present big walls to end Bethesda Row.

When it comes to the Satanic Arlington Rd, I think delivery trucks are the least of our concerns.

@ 4:49 Look, either you are enlightened and progressive and you 'get' the logic behind owning a Tesla and a Range Rover in tandem, or you don't. You clearly are not progressive and you will never get it.

I hope your children enjoy BCC.

Can you help enlighten those who aren't in the know?

@8:28 I can try to help. First off, vulgar car brands like Mercedes and Ford try to make cars that meet several needs, and they wind up with a car that is a jack of all trades and a master of none. Look at the smart Bethesda progressives and you can see that we know it is far better to own a set of specialized automobiles and use them for their specialized tasks.

We have the Tesla for our local driving. It is a fantastic car for me to take shopping in town or for the au pair to drive to pick up dinner for us at Mon Ami. We really only charge it at our home station and in one of the Montgomery County garage spaces that are thoughtfully reserved for our use, if we happen to be parking there anyway. For the majority of our driving, we are doing it with a quiet, comfortable car that cares as much as we do and inspires others to think globally when they see us pass by.

If our daughter has a dressage competition or we need to take the twins to a wrestling meet, we don't pile everyone and all of their gear into the Tesla. We just take one of the Land Rovers, both of which sit idle most of the time while the Tesla fulfills our local driving needs. The Land Rovers are excellently suited for driving and parking in grass lots as well as travelling beyond the county borders.

Finally, we have my husband's 911. This is a wonderful addition to our other specialized cars as it gives us a small, sensible car with German reliability. Having the engine in the rear lends a sense of refinement to the car that simply does not exist in a vulgar Mercedes. It also allows us to have a car that my husband can take to the airport and leave it there when he travels for business. If he took the Tesla, the Range Rover or the LR4 I would lose cars with 4 usable seats. I barely know his 911 is missing when he is gone.

I hope that helps you understand the progressive approach to car ownership. Until other car makers start making less vulgar and more specialized, thoughtful vehicles, I simply can't see us owning one.

@ 9:05 AM - If you looked into my eyes right now, you would see little stars and rainbows shooting out of them. You are the one I have been looking for all my life as well as my past two lives. Dump your loser husband, your soccer brats, elope with me, and we'll nap lavender currant macaroons without remorse happily ever after.

@9:38. Lavender is lovely. Currant is as well. Mixed together though? How gauche. Does Paul Salon De Thé even sell that flavor?

I certainly get your point. But that method can only be achieved with gobs of money, which your family seems to have in spades (kudos to you). In the meantime, manufacturers like Ford will have to continue to make "vulgar" cars to try to serve all purposes to all people for those who can't afford a stable of Tesla, Range, LR4, and 911 (any one at all much less all at the same time).

Curious what it has to do with progressive?

I'm not the original 4:49 commenter. I'm just curious for more info on your perspective. Thanks! :)

What's wrong with BCC?

@11:18 (1). Having the perfect car for the task you aim to accomplish is the progressive way as it is the least wasteful, most stylish and most responsible solution. That is how I would always describe us Bethesda progressives; aware of our footprint in the world, oozing breathless style and always doing the right thing for ourselves and those around us.

I feel like the real question is 'can I identify and understand the struggle of someone who is forced into owning a vulgar car?' That is a good question. I guess I really don't have a good answer for you as I have never been in a situation where we could not afford to own progressive cars. I do understand that there are people in the world who cannot afford to drive what we do, and as a progressive, I fully support government programs to help those people attain better lives, but I would be lying if I said I could really identify with that situation. Sorry I do not have a good answer for you, but I do believe that progressives working in public service are addressing it.

@11:18 (2) Whats wrong with BCC? The opposite of everything that is right about Holton-Arms and Landon. Think of BCC like our town's own little lavender currant macaroon.

@11:35 AM - What a funny troll you are! I grew up in Bethesda and completely disagree with you.

Anonymous said...

@11:40 BCC class of '87 I assume?

To everyone responding to 7:16/6:49/9:05/11:35. This is a parody of the liberal/progressive mindset and frankly, it's pretty funny.

@ 9:49 AM - I'm most terribly sorry, I seem to have experienced a momentary péter du cerveau. Everyone knows that strawberry is the fruit that goes with lavender, not currant. I meant to say "jasmine currant macaron.

Anonymous said...

@ 1:03 - Thank goodness for your clarity. For a moment, I feared you'd be banished from the club. Bon choix.

Anonymous said...

Deathtraps. How many more storefronts have to be destroyed by old people in Mercedes before we ban them?

Anonymous said...

Ha. All the more reason to support bright view to get old people out of Mercedes and off the streets.

New Mercedes would have automatic braking to prevent folks from crashing into storefronts.
