Capital One bank branch closes in Chevy Chase Trust building

Capital One continues to downsize in Bethesda. The latest branch to close is in the iconic Chevy Chase Trust building at East-West Highway and Wisconsin Avenue. This closure has some additional significance, in that this building was the headquarters of Chevy Chase Bank, which was acquired by Capital One ten years ago. Most Chevy Chase Bank branches were converted into Capital One branches.

This was an unrealistic location. If you're not an employee in the buildings or a nearby resident, this isn't very convenient. Where would you even park?

Convenient to transit users and PED.

Thanks, Hans. This nighttime economy is BS. What are we up to, around 20 closures now? Ridiculous

7:32 - ROTFLMBO! Good one....

@ 7:13 AM - They have an ATM right at the entrance to the Metro station. And a full-service branch that will be next to the new south entrance to the Metro station and the Purple Line station.

The location of the now-closed ATM isn't especially convenient. Nothing else on that side of the street for several blocks, unless you count the funeral home and the car dealer.

And what do Performance-Enhancing Drugs have to do with this?

7:13 Weird, I thought they were closing the branch... If only you could have told them that it was a good location.

Capital One has been aggressively closing branches across the country as they've been heavily focused on marketing their 360 online products.

I guess it's good news for the folks who complain about all the banks in Bethesda.

Emm, they already have 2 other branches each less than 10 minutes walk from that location. That is plenty.

Maloney Concrete: This is going on your Yelp page!!!!

Maybe they're turning it into a Capitol One Cafe??

Looking forward to this!

Hey Dyer - I hear that the Anthropologie in Friendship Heights is closing. I am waiting for your article citing this as yet another example of the Superrrich Fleeing Moribund MoCo.

I note that the notice translates "We've Closed" into Spanish, but not the rest of the notice telling customers of nearby locations. I guess they've written off hard-working local Latinos.

12:05: I was the first to report the closure of the Chevy Chase store - in fact, it closed almost a month ago, which is when I filed my breaking news report. #Oops

By the way, troll, your false claim that I had missed a scoop on Westbard was also proven bogus. Nothing new that I haven't already reported months ago - in fact, I've reported on even more details of the plans submitted, from the various easements at Kenwood Place to even the trees that will be chopped down. Punch yourself for such a patently false statement.

Four pinocchios, hobo!
