Here's a story I've been working on for months, but I've finally gotten confirmation today from Federal Realty that Northern Virginia Asian food hall The Block will indeed be opening a Pike & Rose location. The 8500 SF location will be under Pinstripes, at 967 Rose Avenue.
Confirmed vendors so far include Taiwanese Snocream and Pokeworks, which specializes in Hawaiian poke bowls.
The Block is scheduled to open in 2019.

Are these renderings of the Steven Karr firm? They look familiar.
Yeah, Robert - did you draw these renderings yourself? Why are they being posted without attribution?
What information can you provide that wasn't already reported on in the Washingtonian?

12:19: You'll notice the Washingtonian doesn't know the location is under Pinstripes. I've known this was coming for months before Washingtonian.
I love what Dyer is doing for MoCo
So most folks here think Dyer is a megalomaniac- if that’s the case, why does he tie such self importance to his soft hitting and mostly failing and late stories?
"So most folks here think Dyer is a megalomaniac" = just you and yourself.
Megalomania would be claiming you single handily stopped George W. Bush's evil plans, got Obama elected and saved the county's nightlife.
"claiming you single handily stopped George W. Bush's evil plans, got Obama elected and saved the county's nightlife."
Um, who actually made any of those three claims?
Bethesda Beat busted you and gave credit to Washingtonian not you for breaking the story.
1:37: They "busted" me for knowing about this months ago, and reporting it first today? LOL.
1:26: Helpless Hans Riemer made those claims. Then we found out he lied, and was not Obama's youth director when he won in November 2008. Lyin' Hans.
Read all about it in our "Ethnic Dining Issue". Look for on newsstands and waiting rooms Winter 2019.
Mr. Reimer never made any such claims. #DyerTheLiar
1:57 PM Hush yourself and pick up the councilman's dry cleaning before they close.
I am curious about this new trend of “Food Halls”. Aren’t these exactly the same thing as “Food Courts” like the failed food court at the Bethesda Metro Plaza? Why are these becoming popular again? I understand that food courts were added to malls as a secondary amenity to retain retail shoppers a bit longer, but now they seem to be more of a destination as the mall shops themselves. Rebranded as places like an Eatily in New York, where multiple food vendors sell items eaten in common dining areas. I’m not sure how these rebranded ideas have now become destinations.
@2:20 I've been wondering it too. I think in the old days, food courts were sort of high end, like "The Eatery" at White Flint mall in the 80s. Then they got taken over by lower-end places. Look at Montgomery Mall and you've got McDonald's Chipotle, Panda Cafe, etc. Nothing wrong this these places, but hardly a reason to visit the food court -- you're not going to head to the mall just to eat at those places.
So this is making them a bit more upscale again, with a more eccentric variety of offerings, and likely with higher prices too.
Let's see how it works out. It could be a fabulous success or a big failure. I think the fast casual concept has been growing, and food courts are pretty similar. The upcoming $15/hr minimum wage in MoCo will only accelerate the trend I think.
Sbarro is the killer of food courts nationwide.
Eataly is a tourist trap. Never go there it's for amateurs.
Touting paid followers is meaningless.
In other local news, A federal district court judge has ruled that Washington DC's law which prevents gas stations from being converted into other uses, is unconstitutional.

In which Dyer saith "Trump is making Wheaton Great!"
"Look at Montgomery Mall and you've got McDonald's Chipotle, Panda Cafe, etc."
Besides the Apple & MS stores, the Food Court/Arclight is the only part of Westfield Montgomery not devoid of life.
7:33 AM Cheesecake Factory has the longest waits on the weekend in Bethesda. So there is life beyond the food court.
