Peet's Coffee has closed at 7629 Old Georgetown Road in downtown Bethesda. They were already closed temporarily due to the coronavirus pandemic, but yesterday, workmen removed the sign from the store and covered the windows.
The closure appears to be due to the moribund Montgomery County economy or the County's delay in reopening. There are no widespread Peet's closures taking place elsewhere in the country. In fact, a Google search found no reports of individual Peet's stores closing in America in recent months.
It's a big loss for residents in the Bethesda Place apartments. Up until recently, they had a grocery store and coffee shop in the ground level of the complex; now both have closed.

Thanks for this post. I was afraid that shoe was going to drop. Before the virus hit, I generally purchased my favorite type of coffee beans there. Grocery stores carry Peet's coffee beans, but not this particular kind. Now I'll have to order from Peet's online or purchase from Quartermaines. What a drag.
Talked to an employee from there today, and he said the Friendship Heights store is also permanently closing. Silver Spring location near 410 & Colesville road is still open.
