Modell's has closed at 7201 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. The closure was expected, as the sporting goods chain has filed for bankruptcy.
However, the closing was delayed when the coronavirus lockdown interrupted the store's liquidation sale. The space was once home to the beloved Lowen's toy store. Yesterday, the space was cleared out, as you can see in the above photos. But here's a last look inside, in a few pictures taken just prior to the closure.

I wish you had posted that they were having an "everything must go" sale. Bummer. One of many Bethesda businesses that will be shuttered. No doubt about it.
I stopped by Modell's to check out the liquidation sale last Friday. There was a u-shaped line of masked, socially distanced shoppers waiting to check out with their purchases crowding the relatively cramped front part of the store. It must have taken at least 10-15 minutes to check out. A perfect illustration of one potential downside of masks -- the false sense of security may lead to other potentially risky behavior. I got out of there as fast as I could.
@8:58, they've been having an everything must go sale for years.
