Demolition and construction work are being performed simultaneously at the Westwood Shopping Center in Bethesda. The former Capital One bank branch and Rite Aid are being turned into an increasing pile of rubble. Interestingly, they started with the bank next to Giant first, instead of the Rite Aid (a.k.a. Drug Fair for you OGs out there).
Excavation and grading for new Giant building |
Over on what was a massive parking lot, excavation and grading are taking place for elements of the future Westbard Square development, including the future retail building anchored by a new Giant store. Giant and all other businesses at the shopping center remain open during the construction.

Boy do I remember Westbard. Besides the DrugFair, there was also a Baskin Robbins and a Farrells. I go back to 1978 with Westbard.
In some respects, this actually looks better than the existing architecture.
Farrells.. that brings back memories! They had the corner spot as I recall.
Baskin Robbins was where Starbucks is now I think?
