Demolition permits requested for Saphire Cafe in Bethesda

The property owner of the building housing the Saphire Cafe at 7940 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda has requested demolition permits for the restaurant and lounge. Notices are posted in the window there, and at the Golden Needle Tailoring shop next door.

Saphire Cafe remains open, and an employee at the cafe last night was unaware of any potential closing date for the business. Such demolition notices usually indicate a few months' notice of destruction, but sometimes remain posted on properties for years without action. A high-rise apartment building is planned for this site, and the public parking lot behind it on Woodmont Avenue.

Does this project include the old army surplus store on the corner?

John,

No, this will be right next to that 8008 Wisconsin project, if it ever moves forward.
