A Maryland State Highway Administration contractor will begin a bike lane painting project on Old Georgetown Road (MD 187) in Bethesda on Monday, April 10, 2023. Green paint for bike lanes will be applied to the road between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and during overnight hours if necessary. The project is expected to take two weeks to complete.

when does this trial period end? or are these bike lanes permanent? makes no sense to paint the road unless they want to waste money removing it later.
And in related news, the white poles aren't going anywhere as recently reported elsewhere. Comments by elected officials were really beyond belief talking about striking a balance. What balance, there's 4 cyclists per month that use the lanes. Even if the majority say they don't want them, they'll move ahead anyway just ask the Kenwood residents.

It'll never go back to the way it was and Tuckerman is next. Wait until you see what the traffic fallout from that will be. It just boggles the mind this stuff. This is the focus when there are issues with schools and or shootings somewhere in the area daily not to mention all the other random crime.

I'm an avid biker, will use OGR, the whole length, today, used it yesterday, a few days last week, and will use it a few days next week. WTS (with that said, an expression I despise FYI) I am EMBARRASSED by the resources and obvious cost of making these lanes. Yesterday I saw a crew of at least 20 painstakingly essentially melting green panels onto the road surface. I do like the bike lanes and do believe there is a need to facilitate better bike travel since 355 at the beltway is even more an expensive and demanding project. But the costs of hoe its done appear outrageous. Maybe if the lane proper were a bit wider but all within one car lane, still, and two way?!?! As a cyclist I don't mind sharing space with oncoming fellow cyclists. Then the argument would be 'does Northbound or Southbound suffer? With all change, someone suffers, but the trick is to keep it as inexpensive as possible, at least to minimize the insult.
And where's the data to support just this stretch? Are you telling me that the sections of Old Georgetown won't ever see an accident? I think they should all be ripped out as that's what the citizens have indicated they want. Oh no, that can't happen under the Elrich regime. Bank on all of Old Georgetown being ruined along with others as has been reported.

I drove on Tuckerman yesterday and today in both morning and afternoon rush hour. NOT ONE BIKE. But plenty of traffic clogging the road, with school buses and landscape trailers. One guy got frustrated and passed both right lanes in the middle turn lane and I just said, "I get it". When they remove a lane, southbound 355 traffic will back up in the right lane to Gtown Prep, with the typical zoomer cutting in at the last minute to make a right on Tuckerman. The light at OGR which was fully backed up this am will become backed up past the previous red light. This county is full of morons, none more so than the one at the top.
One more rush hour morning and afternoon on Tuckerman - ZERO bikes today again.
If you don't see one on your commute I guess that means no one is using it. Interesting, you should work for the gubmint.
