That’s literally 1 block from the police station.
Basically, we're all gonna have to seriously consider moving.
Keep voting the same way every election and this is what you get. Pro police, tough on crime prosecutors, and a local government who actually cares would go a long way but sadly are all things we don't have. One of the most educated and affluent parts of the country and we have to deal with this crap. Never before has it been like this and is 100% reversible but don't count on it. What has Comrade Elrich said about this? Nothing of course. Yep, that's the county exec you recently re-elected. Good job.
1:15 - That comment should be sent to every member of the county council beginning with Jawando.
You are also more than welcome to run for county executive. Oh wait. You're entitled to your opinions and say what other people should do instead of actually doing something yourself. Good job.
The problem with moving is that, (like other liberal cities with self-induced crime problems), is that the same leftists also move into red states and vote fore the same policies/people that wrecked the places they came from. Like roaches they need to be eradicated, (voted out - for the simple-minded democrats who can't decipher analogies), from the source as there is no changing a closed mind.
1:15 PM Police presence occurs after the fact.
JAC c'mon down here to Florida. No deep state functionaries milling around as in Bethesda.
“Tough on crime” prosecutors have never been shown to be at all effective in lowering crime rates with more punishment. Decades of evidence show it is dealing with root causes that is more effective, yet all we tend to see here are simplistic calls for more punishment. Take a look at countries with far lower crime rates and you will get better guidance for policies we might want to try, as we already have the most punitive system in the world, with not much positive to show for it.
Wasn't this where Robin Ficker's office used to be?
@7:45 So we are to ignore DC, Philadelphia, NYC, Chicago, LA, SF, Portland, Seattle etc as aberrations? Logic and facts aren't your strong suit.
Momo,
I've been trying to get to SC but prices have gone crazy I wonder why. It's coming no doubt. Anyone with a brain will at least get out of MoCo if not much further. FL is amazing.
9:08 - that's a great point and is a legit concern. Victor Davis Hanson also says that eventually, blue states won't be left alone. No, that's target rich environment for govt overreach and wacko policies but hopefully not on the local and state level. FL is maybe number one but SC isn't far behind. Way of life there is incredible and no wonder people are showing up in droves.
Pretty obvious to everyone except 745 that releasing criminals back into society without bail or consequences doesn't work at all.
Conceal carry.
745, I'm afraid your lefty indoctrination at uni was too successful. One need only look to the success Rudi Giuliani had as NYC mayor for an example of "tough on crime" policy working well. Just like in economics tax something more and you get less of it. Punish something more and you will likewise get less of it. Wasn't Kamala supposed to solve the immigration problem by addressing "root causes"? That seems not to have panned out.
Isn't that essentially what every comment is? 7:28 Why would you stoop so low to grace us with your inanity too?
BS, like Rudy G., or not, he temporarily turned NYC around. Do you just pull your ideas out of thin air? Did you work for CNN?
I dunno 7:45, I used to live in Philly. You couldn't keep a flower pot on your porch because of the thievery. All that really wears down the quality of life. Constanty needing to watch your back. It gets old. SO guess what, people move.
A very wealthy man offered to pay the tuition for a class of Philly public school system. Very few managed to get though university. This is liberal area run by liberals.
To clarify, this was reported as an attempted carjacking. That does *not* make it any less a breach of the peace or a less alarming, disturbing event. But for the record, it was reported as an attempt, a male in his 20s, armed with a knife, who walked/ran into the night.
"Take a look at countries with far lower crime rates" One thing they all have in common - they are tough on crime. Severe penalties. We have very little punishment - most of the crime is caused by repeat offenders who have been let out of jail much sooner than their sentence dictated. These people have a rap sheet a long as Biden's prescription drug list. If we kept the criminals in jail, crime would go way, way down. But bleeding heart liberals are not known for rational thought.
But, yet again, not even a general description of the perp? Should we look for a common denominator?
7:45 AM: The criminologists and sociologists are the root cause of the problem. . .
@1:15 it's almost like increased police presence doesn't actually have a deterrent effect on crime from occurring in the first place.
@7:48 AM Exactly, but they need more in order to meet the demand of post crime news conferences.
The blue lights do us no favors.
? So it's not discipline and accountability? Why not just blame Census takers and mathematicians?
JAC, look at WV. Affordable and reliably conservative. I thought seriously about going there but FL has the advantage of no income tax.
@5:26, doing your bit to help your community by moving somewhere with no income tax, the better to starve needed funding for things like police protection. Well played, sir. That'll show 'em!
1006 Police here better funded than in MoCo. FL state legislature makes the laws here not me. The fact that they are not giving out loads of my tax dollars to illegal immigrants (like in MD) is the cherry on my sundae.
Maybe we don't attract the tourists like Florida does? Not rocket surgery to figger that out. Who'd want to come to the DC area now? Crime out of control and MC getting to be just like PG and DC.
