I'll bet 5 bucks this happens 5 to 10 times a day at both WJ and BCC. I'm an alum of BCC.
9:50 - Of course it does. A friend of mine has kids at BCC and says it's the wild West. In the 50's they said both the Pledge and a prayer every morning in every BCC home room. Look how removing God from the public square has brought us to.
At my high school it was normally the teachers committing assault and battery.
2nd degree?
Exactly, at NB Jr High (MCPS), "Mr Nick" the IA (shop class) teacher would regulary smack our bare knuckled hands with a yard long lexan (plexiglass) rod... He'd be in jail today. He was black & also the first time I ever got hit by anyone in the young life.
@JAC Just an absolutely delusional take you have there. My eyes rolled so hard I feared they would detach from my retinas. If you think that's the reason kids are acting up in school these days, then I can only dream of being as naive as you are to the sum of other cultural and societal factors at play.
It's more than just that: I can't believe our neighborhood kids can turn and get so disruptive and violent. Stealing shoes?
6:19 - And that take shows how clueless people are. There are a lot of causes to be sure but private and religious-based schools don't have near the level of behavior the public schools do. That's a touch overdramatic to say your retinas almost detached isn't it? Removing any semblance of Judeo Christian philosophy from the classroom has not contributed at all? That's just not factual. Lastly, in SC and other places, public school kids wear uniforms. That's a positive factor too. They're in school remember? BCC kids walk to school every day wearing pajamas. Great!
Agree! Tho sometimes I do agree with JAC, this time he's way off the mark. What he cites might be a result of the degradation but the cause is all cultural and societal, and geographic. I might add.
That's just one of the reasons. Subsidizing one parent families and electing liberals that let crimes flourish with no consequences are the others.
6:19, like the teachers union, hates Religion, The Pledge of Allegiance, can't define what a woman is and thinks discipline in schools should be assault. No wonder kids today are confused.
@2:36 - Doesn't look like any of that 50's style teaching helped you, or you paid more attention to it, then the grammar lessons.
6:19 Lord of the Flies.
Learning
Let's not sugar coat it. Private schools pick their students and who's on their buses.
7:49 - What a silly comment. Has nothing of substance to offer so nick picks on the wrong choice of a word. The removal of any traditional values, non -punishment for ill behavior in school and much more is to blame. Oh, and a complete Covid lockdown didn't help. But the cuts run much deeper than that. The BCC kids, and WJ to be fair, who engaged in assault, may be prosecuted but can't be expelled? Crazy system.
6:35 - Kindly elaborate. I'm not sure how I'm way off.
6:55 - Indeed. There are volumes of paper written on the removal of all sorts of traditional and established practices in public schools and their negative impact. The public schools are a mess on many levels. Are they still good schools? In general, I would agree they are. But the level of total anarchy in the halls, around town off campus, etc is a real concern. It's a bit like the government and essentially not ever being at risk for termination. Actually, public school is exactly that. A kid could do almost anything and not ever face the consequence of being removed from their school. They simply get moved to another one down the road. Nice.
JAC, the absence of religion and patriotism in our public schools is a *result" not necessarily a 'cause.' These merits are simply cast aside with the degradation from many influences. Sure there's a 'chicken and egg,' sort of conundrum here but specific to the crimes of our high schoolers, that video that surfaced recently shows a very violent actions and the very fact that a victim's shoes were stolen is a definite sign that there are bigger problems that we cannot even address.
9:55 - I agree. Well said.
" bigger problems that we cannot even address."
Why can't we address them, 9:55?
We can't even get vague descriptions of criminal perpetrators, much less remotely accurate ones from the Police, for one. Another is we cannot face up to what statistics and crime numbers really are telling us.
