Speed limit reduced on Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda

The Maryland State Highway Administration has reduced the speed limit on Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda from 35 MPH to 30 MPH. New signage has been installed on the section of the state highway between Sangamore Road and Westmoreland Circle at the Maryland-Washington, D.C. border, with yellow tags that read, "NEW."

The remainder of the road, a two-lane segment between Sangamore and Goldsboro Road, was already set at 30 MPH. This latest adjustment follows a more drastic speed limit reduction on River Road, from 45 to 35 MPH. As with River Road, there was no public process or advance notice of the plan to change the speed limit.

This seems to be another brilliant strategic move on the part of MCDOT.
However, during rush hour traffic everything moves at snail pace already.
The issue surfaces at nightfall, when these roadways tranform into loud speedways.

Doesn't matter. Folks on Old Geo'twn for example, routinely go 60. Speed cameras do nothing because everyone figures out where they are, slows, down, then speeds right back up again.
That said, glad the policy wonks are listening because there has been talk of making those camera tickets hurt. Wanna really slow people down? Make those tickets $250 a pop. That'll do it. Speed limit reduction does zero.

Why not Goldsboro to Sangamore?

Power of the Catholic Church! First their own speed camera, now speed limit reduced.

I'm sure all the carjackers, foodstuffs delivery drivers & unregistered vehicle drivers throughout DC/MD/VA will all strictly heed this new change!

Is there any evidence of injuries or collisions on that road due to the speed limit being 35? Or is this just a revenue grab for the speed camera in front of Little Flower?

Goldsboro to Sangamore has a forty-five degree incline, which is a natural speed deterrent.

Sure, uphill. But did you forget that there is a downhill side to Goldsboro where people exceed the speed limits?
