Paul Bakery closes in Bethesda

A devastating blow for Francophiles in Bethesda: Paul Bakery has closed at 4760 Bethesda Avenue, in the Flats at Bethesda Avenue apartments. The French bakery cafe opened here in June of 2015, as one of the big names attracted to the ground floor retail spaces of the massive Lot 31 development. Mon dieu!

I liked the Archives/Navy Memorial location in DC, this one not so much.

First Paris in Town, then Duck Duck Goose, and now Paul. The French are in retreat.

Last month (November, 2023) they closed a downtown DC location.
The Bethesda location was busy last weekend. There were no free tables.

Great location, hopefully something better can open - DAILY PROVISIONS from NYC would absolutely crush it.

Place was cookie cutter. Hopefully an upgrade goes in.

ICYMIB (and apparently have), turn around behind you and you'll notice that Terrain Cafe inside of Anthropologie & Co. has closed effective November 29th.

People, don’t mess with Maman or Fresh Baguette!

That's sad.
Bluestone Lane should give it a go!

This location always appeared to be doing 'a land office business,' I hope it's a corporate decision vs. just not making enough money... that bodes poorly for all Bethesda merchants.

@ 11:57 am - From what I've read Paul is closing all of their restaurants in the DC area. The Bethesda Row location was always busy - and had the best almond croissants! A loss for sure. So is the closing of Terrain. The restaurant was busy as well.

Wonder how much notice the employees received ?
