The plaza-level park at The Metropolitan apartment complex at 7620 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda has reopened to the public. A major renovation of the whole property, which also includes the Montgomery County Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, has taken place over the past two years. Changes on the plaza include a new irrigation system, soil treatment, new plantings, and the installation of turf and grass. A separate public area between Geste Beer & Wine and Chipotle has also reopened.

I wonder how much this cost the county to redo since the plaza and everything surrounding it is owned by them. It took them two years to basically replace bricks and pavers and grass that is now just browning. What a waste and example of county mismanagement.
You have no idea what you're even talking about.
I think the big reason for the plaza work was to replace the waterproofing above the county parking deck. They did install the new sod before the irrigation was operational, and of course, all grass died, and will need to be replaced.
@7:22AM I think it was more like 4 or 5 years, and it doesn't look much/any different than before. A total disappointment, and I have to agree it was a waste of resources all around.

I’ve seen so much homeless presence around Bethesda Row recently. As I walk by they hoot, yell, and scream. It didn’t use to be like this!!! It’s comparable to DTSS! :(

Robert, thank you for another nice article. The plaza is maintained by the Housing Opportunities Commission and was redone due to a roof leak in Garage #49 which is directly below the plaza. HOC paid for the repairs. The bricks are not new. Some of them were simply removed, cleaned, and put back in place. The trees and shrubs are new. The checker and chess tables are back as they were and soon the water fountain that faces Edgemoor Lane next to the beer and wine will be working. The grass that is looking not so great will be replanted come fall with the cooler weather. The plaza is a hidden gem in Bethesda and one of the few open spaces.
It's already turning into an unhoused haven.
If true, the mere fact that HOC was involved, most definitely means unhoused, section 8, MPDU types will be inhabiting that very green space.
