The Velvet Room is coming soon to 8020 Norfolk Avenue in downtown Bethesda. A bar with karaoke, The Velvet Room is anticipated to open in February 2025. Operating hours will be 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM, seven days a week. First, however, the space has to be converted from its current retail use, so we will see if the target opening timeline holds.

A bar with karaoke? Downtown Bethesda has very little nightlife to support a place like this. I wish that wasn't the case but it is. After 9, the place is empty every night. This isn't Arlington.
is it going in the basement or ground level? There is a decent amount of nightlife a block or two over, so they do have potential if they can build up a regular customer base.
But as far as I know, the owner does not have a lot of experience in the industry, so let's see.
We do need 'just bars,' but Karaoki? Gonna be interesting! Better than a Hookah lounge.
Thousands of new apartment units, but everyone says no support for nightlife. Doesn't make sense. Do these newcomers leave their apartment buildings?
7:38 - It's very strange as was pointed out in a recent post here by Robert. You would think that the downtown area would be teaming with folks enjoying all that the immediate area offers all while walking a few blocks. But that doesn't seem to be the case. You don't have to walk into these establishments one by one to verify this. There's a real sense that it's dead despite 500k and up units going on every corner. And again, this isn't Arlington, where many young people, mostly single, move to the area to live, and never will be. Very few young people starting out have Bethesda on their list of places to go and that's a fact.
Something tells me GAC goes to bed by 9pm. I was out in Bethesda last weekend, and didn't leave until 2am. Caddie's was full, Tommy Joe's was doing well, La Catrina was pretty full on second floor. Even On St Elmo that just opened last month had a decent crowd.
Then as for mid-week, I was at Caddie's on a Tuesday when they had trivia night, and got the last seat in the place.
Are you sure you don't mean Monday night for the 'Skins game?
I hope they rename this place. “Velvet Room” sounds like a good place to catch Chlamydia.
