BANG! Watch out for this totally-destroyed section of Arlington Rd. in Bethesda!

One of my Twitter followers tweeted an accurate description of the section of northbound Arlington Road near Hampden Lane yesterday. Not only does it have nasty, "third-world" potholes in it, but there is water from a mystery source pooling in the street in and around those potholes.

Is there an undetected water main break here?

Unfortunately, I drove through this before checking my Twitter feed Friday night. I somehow managed to steer around the worst, but I recommend you avoid this area until this disaster is fixed. In fact, the street looked even worse than it did in this photo approximately 2 hours later. I believe the water was deeper, as well.

I'm even more stunned by conditions on local roads. As a transplant to the area I just don't get it. Doesn't Montgomery County qualify as a wealthy county regardless of which definition you use? The damage being done to cars must dwarf the cost filling in these holes!

Bethesda Lane and Elm are in bad shape.

They finally fixed a terrible part of Wisconsin southbound near the Metro center.

Correction: meant to say Bethesda avenue.

I haven't walked past since Thursday, but the water was coming from a pipe that was draining the construction hole for the Hampden Mews. It's been backing up the storm drain and spilling over onto Arlington for weeks now.

LOL, what an insane drama queen. Your car is not going to be washed away. This block has been a PITA ever since construction started, and will be at least until it is finished, but just slow down, look where you're going, and you'll be fine.

Also, the west side of the intersection between Wisconsin and Montgomery. I roll over that every day.

10:14: You're the one who's insane - you obviously haven't seen how big the potholes are now, way worse than what's been there previously.

Thanks for the h/t, Robert.

10:14 doesn't mind getting his car repaired when it gets put out of alignment or a tire goes flat. Either that or you don't own a car.

Just report it to the county and I guarantee it's fixed within a business day. They can't fix what they don't know about and once they know they fix it promptly. I'm always shocked by how quickly the things I report are fixed. You'd think there would be a lag, but I've never experienced one, personally.

This is Arlington Rd, 3:26. The county can't save us. No one can. We're doomed.

My report brought attention to the problem, and the potholes are being filled tonight thanks to Roger Berliner's staff and MoCo Highway Services.
